Ladies and Gentlemen.
A very good morning to all of you.
Firstly, I wish to thank FMM Selangor for the invitation to attend your inaugural Open Day. I am very honoured to be here to share this momentous day with you.
Since the last general election, our current Selangor state government administration has developed a good and close working relationship with FMM Selangor in a bid to channel investment into Selangor and to address the issues and problems affecting our current investors. This working partnership also seeks to ensure that Selangor remains firmly as one of Malaysia’s top investment destination.
Our state government administration has received some very good proposals from FMM Selangor and we have implemented them. This has resulted, among others, in the formation of PEMUDAH Selangor at the state government level, and the Industrial Park Management Committee or IPMC at the local council level. Manufacturers and investors in Selangor can utilise these platforms to address issues related to their businesses and thereafter these bodies are able to convey any unresolved matters to the state – via my office and my capacity as the Chairperson of the Investment, Industry and Trade Committee.
Here, I would encourage all manufacturers, who have yet to become FMM members, to join this federation in order to benefit from its efforts and to be kept informed of the latest information and updates relating to the manufacturing sector such as legislations, incentives and other relevant matters.
Although we in Selangor also have the Selangor State Investment Centre (SSIC) and MIDA Selangor to assist manufacturers and investors, FMM Selangor plays a complementary role to this and offers invaluable contributions especially via its HR/IR advisory services.
Through the joint efforts of all these bodies and the state, we have seen much success and growth in Selangor in terms of investments over the past couple of years. The manufacturing sector continues to be a prime mover in the state’s healthy economic growth as foreign investments contribute vastly to the development of the manufacturing sector.
The latest MIDA figures show that Selangor, in the first half of 2011, is the number one state in terms of most industrial projects approved – almost 200 projects. This amounted to close to RM 6 billion in domestic and foreign investments. As a result, over 11’000 jobs potentially are made available for Selangorians and Malaysians. You will hear more of the detailed facts and figures on this from various presentations today. This dynamism and growth has been the trend in the state for the past 3 years and we hope that these figures continue to increase as we aspire to lead the state to greater heights.
I will end my delivery here, as I am sure we are eagerly looking forward to hearing from the various distinguished speakers here today. Therefore, it is now my pleasure to officially launch the FMM Selangor Open Day 2011 and I wish for many more to come.
Thank you.
