I would like to express my gratitude to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for their swift action in arresting an illegal parking operator on state land at Jalan Hujan, Overseas Union Garden. The individual had assaulted a member of the Seputeh Residents’ Representative Council (MPP) when the MPP member and I confronted him to stop collecting illegal parking fees on 15 August 2026.
The offender was subsequently charged in court under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. The Magistrates’ Court has since sentenced him to six weeks’ imprisonment.
I highly commend OCPD Brickfields, ACP Hoo Chang Hook, for deploying police officers during the confrontation and for ordering continuous patrols at the site to prevent further illegal collections. I also extend my appreciation to Kuala Lumpur Chief Police Officer, Datuk Fadil Masus, for his prompt attention to this matter.
A short video clip of the incident was published on my social media platforms at 6 pm on 15 August 2026. As of 10pm today, the video has garnered massive engagement:
· Facebook: 12 million views
· Instagram: 1.5 million views
· TikTok: 774,700 views
· Threads: 686,000 views
Accumulating nearly 15 million views across my official channels, this marks a record-breaking milestone in public reach for my social media video clip. This total does not include the extensive shares and republications by individual users, digital creators, and mainstream media organisations.
The overwhelming influx of public comments reflects a deep-seated frustration. It is clear that illegal parking fee collection on state land has become rampant, leaving countless citizens as victims. The collective public anger has elevated this local grievance into a matter of national concern.
Therefore, I urgently call upon the CPO KL to collaborate with the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur and the Director of PTGWPKL to eradicate illegal parking syndicates on state land across Kuala Lumpur. The authorities must execute stronger, coordinated enforcement actions to guarantee that motorists are no longer intimidated or extorted by hooligans on public land.
