Provisions made for aerobridges at KLIA2, Dewan Rakyat told
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 (Bernama) — Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has made provisions for the installation of aerobridges at KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2), the new low-cost carrier terminal, if the airlines want to make use of them, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Deputy Transport Minister Jelaing Mersat said the proposal to build aerobridges at KLIA2 was still under consideration.
“Nevertheless, the government views with concern public opinion on the matter and has conveyed to MAHB the views of the physically challenged, the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) and the Board of Airline Representatives on the need to build the aerobridges,” he said.
He was replying to a question from Teresa Kok Suh Sim (DAP-Seputeh) on whether approval had been given for the building of aerobridges at KLIA2 and for MAHB to raise the airport fees.
Jelaing said the ministry would only allow MAHB to raise fees commensurate with the services and facilities provided for passengers at an airport.
MAHB has decided not to install aerobridges in KLIA2 after considering budget carrier AirAsia’s decision not to use them, citing cost factors.
Despite that, MAHB said the new terminal would be built to accommodate the installation of aerobridges should it be required in the future.
