Ever since I became Selangor state executive councillor, I have received many invitations to officiate opening of private companies or to be witness of certain handover cheques or gifts to certain organisations.
When there are too many of this kind of invitations, I felt a bit reluctant to attend cos I have many other better things to do. However, sometimes I attended these functions due to constant “persuations” or “pressures” from friends who are close to the company or organisations concerned.
Below are some old pix on such events. These two pix are at the opening of a saloon, i.e. GC Saloon in Puchong. The owner and hair stylist Gary is Tan Kok Wai’s supporter in Cheras. He also used the occasion to give some donations to charitable organisations.
Before I went to this opening ceremony, I washed my hair at home, when I went there, I asked the hair stylist Gary and his wife to blow my hair for me. They did that happily and they took lots of photographs while they blew my hair. I guess this will be good advertisement for them 🙂
I was given a gift by Gary and guess what? The present is shampoo and conditioner. Very practical gift 🙂
These pix taken at Beautiful Gate, a Christian run NGO that assist handicapped people. I attended this event after being persuaded strongly by my lawyer friend Jess Ling who donated a van to Beautiful Gate. The van will be used by Beautiful Gate social workers to ferry handicapped children to school.
Beautiful Gate has done great works to the handicapped people. According to the social worker of Beautiful Gate, one of the kids has been locked up by parents at home and unable to go to school cos the parents are poor and unable to send him to school. This second hand van costs less than RM100K. I praised her in my speech cos very few well-to-do professionals are willing to be so generous to the unfortunate.
I gave an allocation of RM2,500 to Beautiful Gate on that day. I was quite touched by the sacrificial spirit made by Beautiful Gate social workers.
They are hoping to have a new premises to house and train more handicapped children. Will you like to help? 🙂
My friend Jess Ling and I.
I was asked to say a few words.
Jess Ling presented key to the social worker of Beautiful Gate at PJ.
Group photo of those who benefitted from the van donation.
I was presented fruit basket by some happy kids.
the leggy model next to YB Tan makes YB Tan looks very….well…some of us know what that cantonese proverb say about clever people… 🙂
YB Kok,
I hope people know that you have a heavy scehdule and at times, you need a break too. By not attending some opening ceremony, trust you are doing real work. After all, you are in the parliament and the state assembly, learning your trade, attending to all and sundry in Seputeh and Kinrara. Some people would want you to appear despite your assistants were there.
There is no pleasing everyone. I hope people can take a polite “no, I am sorry.”
As for beautiful gate, I regret I only got property in my name and taken up for my private dwelling so I can’t host them. 🙁
In a way Wee Tak, I agree and also disagree.
An MP does not only focuses on national issues in the Parliament but also contribute to the people in other ways. Besides, public relations is needed u know =3
Charity is always a good thing…..although they seem to hunt me down in mid valley till i’m broke T_T. The van looks like a tight fit for those kids =(.
By the way….There’ll probably be a delivery for you and YB Tan in your email….kekeke xD
It’s good to attend such functions but make very sure that everything is above board.
The reason is that your attendance maybe construed as endorsement.
Yep, knight. You got a valid point.
Dear Teresa,
All I would like to say is that Beautiful Gate is one of the good works that comes naturlly to the followers of Jesus Christ.
I really appreciate Christians doing good works in a world that are full of suffering!!!
God bless you & your work for the country, Yang Berhormat Teresa S S Kok.
Sincerely,
Aaron
