Press Statement by Teresa Kok, DAP Selangor Chairperson in Kuala Lumpur on 22 March 2011
MACC concocts more lies to deflect attention from their own culpability in the death of the late Teoh Beng Hock
Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Investigation Unit Chief Hairul Ilham Hamzah’s lied to the Royal Commission of Inquiry yesterday when he alleged that the DAP had received a cut from payments for Selangor State Government projects as reported by the Malaysian Insider.
Hairul’s statement is false, completely without basis and concocted to deflect public attention from MACC’s own culpability in the death of the late Teoh Beng Hock.
Selangor State EXCO Ean Yong Hian Wah has already refuted such allegations and provided the facts of the payments during the previous Teoh Beng Hock inquest and yet this MACC officer is rehashing this false accusation again.
MACC officers must stop their shenanigans and instead, come clean on how their politically-motivated investigation and selective prosecution of the Selangor State Government elected representatives has resulted in the shocking death of an innocent man and brought untold grief to his loved ones.
Should MACC officers genuinely have proof of corruption, the right thing to do is to charge the guilty in a court of law instead of issuing defamatory statements. I urge MACC to take disciplinary action against their officers for making such reckless statements which tarnish the image of the innocent parties.
For decades, DAP has been a strong advocate for a clean and transparent government while condemning the rampant corruption and lack of transparency in Barisan Nasional government. Thus, DAP’s position in this is clear. DAP will not tolerate any corrupt practices, not even from among our members, nor will DAP attempt any cover-up of such wrongdoings should it ever occur.
