8 March 2010 was not just the anniversary of when Pakatan Rakyat won the 2008 general elections, it was also International Women’s Day!
On that day, I was at National Union of Bank Employee’s (NUBE) House in Brickfields, to support the launch of their 1-million signatures campaign to extend maternity leave from current 2 months to 3 months for female employees.
Here’s the video recording of the speech I gave at the event.
Show your support by taking part in NUBE’s signature campaign here.
i think 60 days is ok but must have a cap…perhaps for the first 3 or so babies….this is meant for people who practice family planning otherwise one would end up with women working only 9 months a year.
if the lady is, e.g., earning RM12,000 per annum or RM1,000 a month then her basic is really RM1,333.33 per month…it has to be fair to employers and employees as well as affecting employers’ hiring decision
I am all for women’s right but just becareful we do not venture too much into 1 direction
if this 90 days encourage wanton reproduction then families could end up with empasis in quantity and not quality – and for quantities, guys, you know what I mean…put a lid over before matters coming to a head, please. be responsible be thoughtful and there are other ways for fun
