Pastor Jeffery Kumin addressing the crowd in the DAP forum in Sandakan on 30th December 2007.
As a Christian, I find difficulty in getting blessings and prayers from pastors for my political involvement, especially when I am in an opposition party. I have heard pastors openly praying for the government and the Prime Minister in church, but I have never heard them praying specifically for the opposition.
Pastor Jeffery Kumin is quite a different pastor. He is a bit short and chubby, like Santa Claus, but he has a kind heart. He was introduced to me by a supporter in KK.
This friend of mine said Pastor Jeffery has a special spiritual gift, where he can see vision while he pray for others. I then experienced this special prayer session with Pastor Jeffery, and I was very surprised with the things that he saw while he was praying for me and others.
What impressed me most was that he prayed not only for me, but also for the DAP.
Two months ago, the friend called me and said Pastor Jeffery was willing to join the DAP. I then asked our KK branch chairman Dr Hiew to contact him.
In my trip to Sabah, I was very surprised to see Pastor Jeffery Kumin openly wearing the clothe with Rocket symbol. I was informed by Dr Hiew that he is interested to contest in elections too.
When Kit Siang made a sudden decision to go to Kudat, he forgo his ‘duty’ to conduct service on Sunday and went to Kudat and Sandakan with us, and rushed back the next day.
When the Mazu statue was shelved by the Sabah state government and turned into an issue, my staunch Christian friend who introduced Pastor Jeffery to me called me and asked the DAP not to support the statue to be installed as God hates idols. I told this supporter that as a political party that propagates freedom of religions, we should set aside our own religious belief and fight for equality and justice for all religions in the country.
I think this friend of mine must be very surprised to see Pastor Jeffery Kumin went to Kudat and took picture with us at the site of Mazu statue :-))
Pastor Jeffery knows how to draw line between his pastoral works and politics, he is humble and sincere too.
He spoke very well in ceramah. I believe he has consulted God before he made the decision to join the DAP.
I hope and pray that he can win handsomely in coming general elections. May God use the DAP to restore justice and democracy in Sabah, may Pastor Jeffery Kumin be His great instrument of change in Sabah too.
Dear Theresa,
No worries about not getting prayers. I will encourage my friends to pray for you. I believe you don’t need pastors to “endorse” you. As the Lord said,
“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
