11th AUGUST 2018: Minister of Primary Industries YB Teresa Kok launched the 11th edition of the Malaysian Furniture and Furnishings Fair (MF3) at Hall 1, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today. The three-day fair that ends tomorrow is participated by 120 companies showcasing 300 brands of locally-manufactured furniture and furnishings products and services.
The fair is expected to receive more than 20,000 visitors and achieve over RM25 million in sales. It is organised by the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Furniture Association (KSFA).
In conjunction with the MF3, the KSFA and Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) also, for the first time, jointly organised the Wood & Lifestyle Fair 2018 at Hall 4 of the KL Convention Centre.
Malaysia is the ninth largest furniture product exporter in the world with the major export markets being the US, Singapore, Japan, Australia and Britain.
YB Teresa in her speech highlighted programmes introduced by the ministry, through the MTIB, to develop and nurture local talents in furniture design to ensure Malaysia’s furniture industry remains strong.
The Professional Designers Programme, started in 2015, gives participants the opportunity to collaborate with internationally-renowned furniture designers to develop high quality and unique furniture.
The MTIB also set up the Tanggam Design Centre in 2016 as a hub for young designers and the industry to collaborate and promote innovative furniture designs. The Tanggam designers were named Best Designers at the 2017 Salone Satellite Show in Milan, Italy.
