On 11 December 1965 then-DAP pro-tem Chairman Dr. Chen Man Hin contested in the Rahang (Negri Sembilan) state seat by-election.
He defeated the Alliance and Socialist Front candidates with a majority of 1538 votes.
As DAP was still pending registration as a political party, Dr. Chen contested as an independent using the plum blossom symbol.
This victory was very significant as it proved that the people identified with the party’s struggle even before it was formally registered.
Dr. Chen, the party’s Life Advisor, has stuck with his principles through thick and thin and Malaysians owe him for his foresight and dedication.
Congratulations Dr. Chen, well done! 🙂
and another worthy Seremban DAP character is Mr Hu Sepang, the cow boy who famously went into the pit and drag a victim out. talk about YBs going to the ground level
went to his house once in Lobak when I was still a school boy. nothing glamorous, in fact heart aching for me to see his house and family members. a wonder that he did so much and got back so little.
Yes, Dr Chen Man Hin has stucked to his guns in his fight for social & economic justice since winning the state seat 43 years ago, when I was still in Form 3, aged 15.
I remember that Dr Chen once said, “Being in the opposition is to wear a crown of torns. It is not a bed of roses.
I am sure God has rewarded him by letting him see the DAP leadership of the Penang state government.
Only about 25 years ago, someone said that DAP could not come to power, even in 100 years.
This person is wrong.
