PENANG Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and party supremo Lim Kit Siang retained their positions as DAP’s secretary-general and parliamentary leader, respectively, after the party’s central executive committee (CEC) re-election in Shah Alam today.
Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai retained the post of DAP chairman while Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo was chosen as deputy chairman.
The party also elected five vice-chairmen – Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen, Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow, Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran, Mentakab assemblyman Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji and Sandakan MP Wong Tien Fatt.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Nga Kor Ming, and Batu Gajah MP V. Sivakumar were elected as the party’s deputy secretary-general.
The party’s national organising secretary is Anthony Loke while Su Keong Siong and Khoo Poay Tiong were chosen as the assistants.
Other posts include national publicity secretary, held by Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, with Damansara Utama assemblyman Yeo Bee Yin and Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari as the assistants.
Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong and Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming were made as the party’s political education director and assistant political education director respectively while Teo Nie Ching was chosen to be the party’s international secretary.
The rest of the members who remain as committee members are Chong Eng, Ronnie Liu, Selangor exco Teng Chang Khim, Jannie Lasimbang, John Brian, Canning assemblyman Wong Kah Woh and Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh.
Guan Eng said with the new CEC, the party can now focus on their preparation for the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).
“We can focus on the party’s preparation ahead of the general election, whether it will be held this year or next year.
“We believe with this party, we can continue our work with the newly elected committee members without disturbance from the RoS (Registrar of Societies),” he said during a press conference today.
This is the third time DAP is holding its CEC elections since 2012 following a dispute by some members.
The second CEC election was held seven months later in July 2013 but had its results rejected by the RoS this year. – November 12, 2017.
