PARLIAMENT Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has threatened to sue Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh) for calling him a “minister for developers”.
The confrontation began as Tengku Adnan was closing his winding-up speech on the Agong’s royal address, when the minister said he did not appreciate “treacherous” remarks.
“The Federal Territories Ministry wishes to thank all MPs. All advice, views, suggestions that are constructive are appreciated, those that are treacherous I do not appreciate,” Tengku Adnan, who is better known as Ku Nan, told the House.
This prompted Kok to stand up and question what he meant by “treacherous”.
“What do you mean by treacherous? What about plans that betray KL residents and taxpayers?
“He is a minister for developers, not the rakyat,” she said.
Tengku Adnan responded: “Please say outside (the House) that I’m the minister for developers. I will sue you! You say it outside!”
The two had earlier sparred verbally about development in densely populated areas in the capital.
Kok said such developments only make life more difficult for city dwellers, by adding to traffic jams, among others.
Tengku Adnan however, assured that issues such as congestion are studied before any development is approved.
This is not the first time the two have sparred on urban development.
On March 12, the Putrajaya MP was reported as saying that the DAP lawmaker was against development in her constituency, as she feared an influx of Malays.
This followed a protest she held with Seputeh residents, against the sale of a community centre to make way for an affordable housing project.
Kok said Tengku Adnan’s remarks were “racist” and that she did not fear having more Malay constituents, as they would like her.
