Looking back at “Assassinating a YB vs Press Freedom”

Posted on Tuesday, 28-10-2008Monday, 30-05-2011 by Teresa

Dear friends, as you know the DAP organised a forum titled “Assassinating a YB vs Press Freedom” on 23rd October 2008 at Chinese Assembly Hall.

The speakers at the forum were Lim Kit Siang, Khalid Samad (Shah Alam MP), Haris Ibrahim (human rights lawyer cum blogger), Dr Azmi Sharom (academician), Wan Hamidi Hamid (Chief Editor of Rocket) and me. The moderator was Edward Ling, one of the Hannah Yeoh’s aides.

The turnout at the forum was encouraging. Most of them got to know about the forum through Lim Kit Siang’s blog, the Malaysiakini advertisement and perhaps my blog as well.

My colleagues in DAP HQ did live web-casting for that forum. It was quite a fun as viewers from abroad could communicate with panel speakers that night. A friend of mine, Dr Peter Jesudason in London send me a text message and said, “Hi YB Josephine, the forum is great!” 🙂

Yessss, we have been doing tele-conferencing via internet.

The speakers and audience discussed a wide spectrum of issues related to the politics of the country.

Tony Pua, publicity secretary of DAP (extreme left) presented this banner as a token of appreciation to each and every speaker at the forum. 🙂

I thank each and every speaker for sharing their time to support me at the forum. I also thank many attendees who came forward to lend support to me on this issue. I told the audience that everywhere I go, I met with people of different faiths telling me that they prayed for me and were praying for me. I said with all these well wishes from the public, I believe I will be safe and I will live long to continue the struggle for the people and the nation.

A friend of mine who attended the forum told me that he enjoyed the forum very much. I believe this is because both the speakers and audience shared common views and concerns about the country, as well as the role of media.

Foo Yueh Chuan (left), our Chief-of-staff of DAP HQ, planned the forum and gave lots of support to me on the “YB J” case. The other pretty girl next to me is lawyer, M.Y Cheah, who has been very supportive of democratic reforms.

It was a great debate. If another similar is held, please ensure all the press people EXCEPT those from that garbage reporting UM. This paper is NOT fit to report anything as most of those running it are either unethical, racialistic or downright scumbags. And make sure the whole world knows that they are NOT invited. These scumbags thought they can cover the sky with their filthy hands.
    Great work Teresa.

We believe comment and forum like those of above is of interest to the publics.

Many need and release of ideas and directional motion by the people is not being share and mind boggling in the respect of the administration of the governmental pursue both state and federal affairs.

This forum will serve as an outburst of their woes and frustration to the present tyrannical administrative style of rule. Apart from internet as a mean of “outburst”. This forum will definitely cater to those that are not internet savvy.

Have more forums, this will further strengthen the relationship and keep abreast of the needs and problems of the society at large. Since human being is a social animals communication and interpersonal relationship is an advantages to those who has not practice what they suppose to preach in the beginning.

Since the basis of democracy also derive from serving the “grassroots”; the people of Malaysia itself.

    Emmanuel!
