Today is supposed to be the trial of my defamation suit against Mr Wong Choo Cheang, the former chairman of DAP Seputeh liaison committee. However, the trial did not go on as he decided to apologize to me in chambers before the judge.
Wong accused me of squandering elections fund of the 2013 elections of DAP Seputeh in a press conference. His allegations are totally without basis. I have sent all my service centre’s documents and accounts to a chartered accounting firm to audit and auditor was prepared to be my witness.
I believe his action against me was because i did not appoint him as my elections campaigner manager in the 2013 general elections. Wong knew very well that I was the one that raised most funds for my service centre and the elections campaign funds for DAP Seputeh, and I also raised funds for many candidates in the party in last GE too. I have been transparent all the way.
I have tried to talk to him after the general elections many times but he refused to meet me. So when he called the press conference to whack me, I have no choice but to sue him for defamation.
I am glad that this case is closed as this will save my time and my lawyers’ time and cost of getting witnesses to go in and out of court, even though I know I will win in court if I pursue the matter further.
Wong Choo Cheang’s apology statement is as follow:–
“I, Wong Choo Chieang a life member of the Democratic Action Party Malaysia, verily and in good faith sincerely apologize to YB Teresa Kok Suh Sim for the Press Statement I issued to the journalists present at the press conference on 05.02.2014 and which was reported by the media though the words were not published in the exact words that I have used in my press release.
I believe that my said Press Statement that was republished by the media may have tarnished, prejudiced and discredited the good will, reputation and image of YB Teresa Kok Suh Sim as a Member of Parliament for the Seputeh Constituency and as the National Vice Chairman of the Democratic Action Party, Malaysia.
I also undertake not to repeat these words again in the future.
