Seputeh MP Teresa Kok today withdrew her appeal against a High Court decision to dismiss her application for the transfer of her sedition trial to the High Court.
Her lawyer S. N. Nair informed the Court of Appeal of the withdrawal, in light of the attorney-general’s decision to withdraw the sedition charge against her.
Deputy public prosecutor Aslinda Ahad confirmed the matter.
Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif, chairing a three-man panel, subsequently struck out the appeal.
Kok, 51, who is also a DAP vice-chairman, was charged in the Sessions Court in May last year with producing a seditious video entitled “Teresa Kok ONEderful Malaysia CNY 2014”, in conjunction with Chinese New Year celebrations in February 2014.
She sought to have her case transferred to the High Court but the application was rejected on June 25 last year.
On November 20 last year, deputy public prosecutor Hamdan Hamzah informed the Sessions Court that the charge against Kok had been withdrawn.
Outside the court today, Nair said Kok wished to thank Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali for withdrawing the charge against her.
