On 10th December 2015 (Thursday), I attended the fundraising dinner for the Gabungan Impian Kelantan housing project, held at the field next to Kompleks Sukan Pandamaran, Klang. It was organised by DAP Pandamaran.
There was massive traffic jam in town after the heavy downpour on that afternoon. However, the rain and traffic jam did not deter the DAP supporters from attending the dinner. The 250 table dinner was fully attended.
The speakers for the night were: YB Lim Kit Siang, Mat Sabu, YB Ganabatirau, YB Eric Tan, YB Eddie Ng, YB Charles Santiago and me.
In my speech, I told the crowd that while UMNO is playing racial and religious cards, and inciting hatred against the DAP, it is all the more important that we should counter the racist propaganda by showing our kindness to the Malays who have been marginalised and neglected, particularly the homeless flood victims in Kelantan.
I said that it is important for the non-Malays to prove to the racist UMNO leaders that we are willing to offer assistance to the needy regardless of race and religions, because we are all Malaysians.
It was a successful dinner. The dinner raised RM100K++, which was enough to build 2 houses for the Kelantan flood victims who are still living in the tents. .
I must give credit to the organisers, namely the local assemblyman YB Eric Tan, organising committee chairman Tee Boon Hock and councilor Lee Fu Haw. They managed to get this dinner done in two months time. This shows their good network and mobilising power on the ground.
