KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Teresa Kok has called for the government to issue a show-cause letter in relation to the “YBJ” short story published in Utusan Malaysia on Sunday. While debating the 2009 Budget in Dewan Rakyat today, the Seputeh MP said that “we know who it is aimed at despite what Kinabatangan said yesterday. The article asked for me to be shot and encourages violence against an MP.” Yesterday, Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Mokhtar had defended the article by former magazine editor Datuk Chamil Wariya, calling it simply a work of fiction.
The DAP national organising secretary was questioning last month’s Internal Security Act arrests against her, blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin and Sin Chew journalist Tan Hoon Cheng in her speech.
She said that on one hand, Tan was detained under the Act for reporting on the “squatter” statement by former Bukit Bendera Umno chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail whereas no action was taken against Chamil.
“I do not want ISA action to be taken against Chamil but a show-cause letter to be issued,” she answered to her parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang’s interjection.
Lim had stated that Chamil is the CEO of the Malaysian Press Institute, which provides courses for new reporters to encourage “writing that promotes national unity”.
“The mass media’s silence on this is utterly obscene and irresponsible. Do you gree that Datuk Chamil Wariya should apologise to you and the country?” the Ipoh Timur MP asked Kok.
Kok agreed, saying that “a newspaper should not be allowed to stir up and incite racial and religious sentiments.”

DAP lodges police report against Utusan
By Adib Zalkapli
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 – Bandar Kuching MP, Chong Chieng Jen lodged a police report against Malaysian Press Institute CEO, Datuk Chamil Wariya and Utusan Malaysia at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
The report was lodged over a short story, Politik Baru YB J, which the DAP Socialist Youth deputy chief claimed was a “political propaganda disguised as a fiction.”
He added that the story is a form of political intimidation.
Accompanied by Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching and Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, Chong said he is disturbed by the ending of the story, where a young man assassinated YB J, a characted he believed refered to Seputeh MP, Teresa Kok, for allegedly causing racial tension.
“The said short story contains a seditious message and is aimed at instigating and inciting its readers to commit political assassination against the Member of Parliament for Seputeh, YB Teresa Kok Suh Sim,” said Chong in his report.
He hoped that the police would carry out its investigation fairly.
“I also challenge Umno, MCA, MIC, SUPP, PBB and Sabah political parties to take a stand on this issue,” he added.
He was also sickened by some Umno lawmakers who ignored the publication of the short story.
“This story tries to bring us into the dark age of political terrorism. ISA is bad enough, but this is even worse than ISA,” said Chong.
Chong expected that the campaign to boycott Utusan Malaysia would intensify, adding that the party’s central committee will meet to decide on the next course of action.
In a thinly-veiled threat against Kok, Mingguan Malaysia, the weekend edition of Utusan on Oct 12, published a short story written by Chamil, about a female, non-Malay lawmaker, YB Josephine, who was accused of being anti-Islam and anti-Malay.
At the end of the story YB Josephine was assassinated by a young man, who subsequently, committed suicide.
The murderer left a note that it is better for YB J to die, to ensure racial harmony.
This case is irrefutable proof of UMNOs double standards and previleges..
If a writer like me has written such “cerpen”, i would already be behind bars of the ISA jail, eating DOGs food.
what more can I say??
With enforcing the use of ISA, the rotten orang utangs failed to silence the critics of this unjust law. Now they have gone further by resorting to encourage ‘political murder’. They have descended to the level of Mafia gangsterism. Sadly, the same dangerous people are running the country with no principles, values or morals. God helps us all!
PR & Rakyat must stay focus & united. corrupted rejim racist umno is diverting d issue of rejim umno/bn internal power struggle & their failure to rescue d nation financial & economy crisis !
hidup PR ! hidup M’sia !
Personal feelings. Sometimes it’s better to play ‘deaf and dumb’ to certain things and leave it to ‘die off’ then to ‘add oil to fire’.
Malaysian Press Institute CEO, Datuk Chamil Wariya with such a honorable title and prestige turn to an outrages stupidly and foolishness of dignity and lose of respect with his in despicable judgment for not being able to discern what is the true and evil in nature.
Furthermore as a elite and in a leadership position Datuk Chamil Wariya is so vulnerable to the political pressure and emotional instability which result ignite this coup action diminishing his mental intelligent and hence made him unfit even to hold that CEO position to uphold the integrity of press and freedom without biasness, siding to any skewness of political influence to certain extend even his own believe.
It takes further a humble to admit that he has done a very great wrong in the eyes of the people, community and even deceiving his faith itself.
But unfortunately the writer did not end the story as it continues further. Many will rise up as it is now to overcome the true of the deception of the present government. Many people had already lost hope and trust in the avenue of the government managing the economic efficiently. The storyline is not consistence with the actual fact of the real life situation. The strategy of creating this story is to gain a minority group of simple minded kampong people which may not overall involve in the totality political scenario happening in Malaysia.
Fishing for votes they are as a desperate attempt to get support and strength for the UMNO party.
The real reason is that they do not know by doing this people will further come to deduction of instilling more hatred and unprofessional amongst the fellow party in handling this situation maturely.
This hence will cause them, UMNO more damaging rather that patching up the situation towards their advantages. Apart from that we wonder who is controlling the marketing and PR establishment of their party.
I wonder whether this is a subtle ploy to get the opposition’s attention away from the BIG scandal currently happening right now. I hope that YB Teresa & colleagues would not succumb to this childish but dangerous game Chamil is playing. He doesn’t deserve to be called a Datok anymore. Where’s his integrity? Is he a closet Malay chauvinist? Judging from the article I’m inclined to agree.
Journalistic terrorism – that’s what Chamil & his cohorts are actively doing right now. He is playing with fire and probably due to ignorance or stupidity may not realise how dangerous that fire can be.
Have faith dear YB. There’s light at the end of the tunnel. In the final confrontation between good and bad, good always wins.
Dear MP,
I don’t see anything is wrong in that fiction short story. Are you going to champion for a free media or are you going to be just another BN once you take over the government from them? This is what free media is all about. If you want, you can also write a short fiction story with a plot revolving around a story about a wife of a deputy prime minister of Timbuktu involved in the murder of his husband mistress and eventually both of them end up in the gallows. I don’t have any problem with that.
Tell us something, are you also supporting the banning of Zoolander movie? What about Satanic verses? Or you only make noise if you see the fiction story somehow related to you but if it didn’t hit you in the head, you will support a freedom of expression?
Just get on with your life and continue your good work will ya! Do not let this issue preoccupied you. This is exactly what the author of that ‘cerpen’ want you to respond. Do not fall into their trap
P/S: Do not edit any of my comment if you are a supporter of the right to freedom of expression
