A Kelantan Wanita Umno member was called in for questioning today by anti-graft authorities over alleged misappropriation of funds allocated for flood relief in the state.
Sources with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the agency involved was the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM), which is in Prime Minister’s Department and under the purview of the minister in charge of Islamic affairs.
The member of Umno’s women’s wing in the state holds a high position in the agency and had her first statement recorded by MACC on Monday evening, sources said.
She arrived at 10.50am today with a male companion.
It is learnt that the MAC probe was focused on alleged misappropriation of funds worth millions of ringgit, abuse of power as well as criminal breach of trust.
The anti-graft body is also likely to question the woman’s family members as well as other YaPEIM senior officials to assist in investigations.
MACC is also looking at possible abuse of power involving YaPEIM funds for a halfway home in the same state.
The floods in Kelantan in December last year were one of the worst in the peninsula, displacing more than 200,000 people at their height.
The waters swept away homes, leaving behind thick layers of mud, and damaged a railway line. – October 7, 2015.
