KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — DAP’s newest recruit, constitutional law expert Abdul Aziz Bari has been summoned to Bukit Aman for questioning tomorrow over an allegedly seditious article published a year ago carrying his remarks about the Selangor sultan.

An aide to the academic said Abdul Aziz was informed of the summons right after a press conference at the DAP headquarters where he announced that he was joining the party.

“We only got to know about it in the afternoon. It was right after the press conference, Dr Aziz got a call asking him to appear in Bukit Aman tomorrow,” his personal secretary Andy Lim told Malay Mail Online today.

Lim said the police informed that Abdul Aziz is to be investigated under the Sedition Act for “allegedly insulting the Selangor Sultan” in an article he wrote about the state water deal.

“The police told him that they are going to take his statement on an article he published a year plus ago where he said the Sultan helped to muscle the water deal.

“They said he had insulted the Sultan by asking the people to go against him,” Lim added.

Abdul Aziz said earlier today he hoped to be able to contribute to the Malaysian dream with his involvement in the party.

“I am looking for a bigger space or rather a grouping to my mind that will give me more freedom or a place whereby my talent or expertise will be fully utilised,” he told reporters at the DAP headquarters here.

The academic previously contested on a PKR ticket during the general election at Sabak Bernam.
