An electrical blip that plunged the DAP headquarters into darkness for some 10 minutes did not spoil the 'welcome home' party for outspoken politician Teresa Kok.
A bouquet of flowers, a cake and mooncakes were already waiting her even before she came into the conference room.
The 50-minute press conference was conducted in an almost festive note as DAP chairman Karpal Singh, Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim and state exco colleague Elizabeth Wong joined in.
Relating the incidents of the day, Kok told of how she was tailed the whole day by police before the arrest took place on her way home last Friday.
"I was going back to my condo after a function when a car sped up to block my car while another stopped behind me.
"Police came and tapped on my window to say that I was being arrested under the ISA. My request for a phone call was rejected.
"After instructing my driver to inform the party and my family, I was taken away," said Kok.
Requests for a shower and a chance to pick up some clothings before going to the police station were also ignored, said Kok.
The police, she added, wanted to handcuff her but after pleading with them, they relented and took her to a police station without the restraints.
Kok said that she was unsure where she was taken to and only got to her cell around 4am.
During her seven-day detention, Kok said she was only questioned twice – Saturday and Sunday – on the three allegations.
After the first session on Saturday, the three-term Seputeh MP offered to write her own statement for the police.
"They gave me a laptop on Sunday and I typed out my answers to their three questions in Bahasa Malaysia," said Kok.
The rest of her detention was uneventful, said Kok, except for one day when they gave her only boiled eggs, gravy and some cucumber for lunch and dinner.
Bible to read
Initially, she was not given any reading material but later on she was given a Bible after she requested for "something". On the last two days, Kok was allowed to read newspapers.
"But I got some of the news by asking the investigating officer when I was being questioned in his room. That was the only time I got some air-cond," said the politician with an impish grin.
After the first two days, Kok was also permitted to exercise before she was returned to her '6 by 8' cell at 5.30pm each day.
The only upsetting moment in her detention was when she was told her confinement would be extended by 28 days.
"It was distressing as I had already answered their questions," said Kok.
"It was also ironic that the morning they arrested me, I was explaining to 300 businessmen from China that Malaysia was a politically stable country for them to do business with."
"Imagine, their horror when the person who spoke to them on Friday appeared in the papers the next day, detained."
On her immediate plans, Kok, said that she will return to work as soon as possible.
"In fact, I've three functions to attend tonight," said Kok.
She ended the conference by thanking everyone who had supported her, with a special note to former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, who quit after protesting the ISA arrests.
"Zaid is really my friend! Thanks Zaid and you are welcomed to join Pakatan Rakyat anytime," she quipped.
Great to hear you’r released from the evil grip. We are all awaiting for the next good news from the PR on 23/9!

Congratulations for your early release!
Yes, YB Tereas, you must sue Utusan Malaysia and its columnist Zaini Hassan over articles written about you.
You must also not forget to sue the most racist former Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo over his statements about you, and the Government for unlawful detention.
Justices must be done now and litigation must be taken immediately to teach this Toyo moron a lesson.

Dear Ms. Teresa,
Your unlawful detention has opened my eyes about the cruelty of the ISA act. I hope you will join the rest of the ex ISA detainees and the family of the ISA detainees to fight these cruel act. From this blog, http://lailagmi.blogspot.com/, I realized that there are many more ISA detainees. These people have wives and children. Some of the detainees have been in there for seven years. I hope you will continue to put pressure on the current government so that all ISA detainees get a fair trial or be released immediately.
People, please don’t just fight for RPK and Kickdefella only, but please fight for the rest of the 65 ISA detainees too. Their family need your support.
Dear YB Teresa Kok,
When I heard the news of your release, I shouted in Jublilation. Yey!!!!

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me in right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff
that give me courage.
You spread the table before me
in the sight of my foes;
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
for years to come.
Congratulations Teresa.
I hope you and all MPs have signed the petition:

Hi! YB Teresa,
Though I dont know u well, but I believe u have such strong courage & fighting spirit which u have demonstrated during the 1 week detention under ISA. I take my hat off & salute u.
In the history as u may hav read/known, most if not all of the great people who fought for people’s happiness endured endless persecutions. To name a few: Sidharta Gautama, Jesus of Nazerath, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Mahatma Gandhi, Mrs Rosa Parks, Nichiren Daishonin, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, Nelson Mandela, Josei Toda, Mother Teresa, Daisaku Ikeda…the list goes on. It is precisely all these great people fought for justice, righteousness and people’s happiness, walking the correct path that had caused persecutions to arise. In other words, when u fight for the right & justice, walk the correct & truth path, persecutions will definitely come to u, then those who are foolish will give up in the face of persecutions, but those who are wise will continue their journey with courage & perseverence no matter what happens…I believe u are one of the latter, please continue to create history moment by moment.
we love you, we love your brave dad and mum too! we all proud of you.
you are our proud!!
welcome back, teresa! you persevere and you win. the lord is great indeed!
yes echoing gladys, we love you. front page of herald big headline that we love you all because you love god more.
Glad to have you back, Saint Teresa!
You may want to reconsider about suing the government. Sue the individuals instead for misusing the ISA!
After all, Pakatan is going to form the next government.
Dear Teresa,
I cried when I watched you on TV when you were released – tears of relief, tears of happiness and tears of anger too, for you and your parents. Nevermind about the 7 days of mental and physical torture. It is your sacrifice for us – people who support you and who are very much aware of your selfless contribution. After all, it is what you have been doing throughout your political life. So be strong and carry on fighting!
Dear Teresa,
Alhamdulillah for your release.
Here is my suggestion:
As a gesture of goodwill, why don’t you take up the fight against the tyrant in China who are oppressing the Turkic Muslims in Uighur or Xinjiang province of the People Republic of China.
You can read more about their suffering from Roy Anthony Rogers study or you can visit islamonline.com.
You could also visit http://alternate-enter.blogspot.com/2008/08/beijing-olympic-08-08-08.html and http://alternate-enter.blogspot.com/2008/09/wrning-tyrants-in-china-goes-overboard.html for the summarized version of their story.
InshaAllah the Muslims in Malaysia could relate better with you if you choose to take up this fight.
Maybe a petition to the China embassy would be a good start.
that’s all for now. Stop the oppression on the Turkic Uighur in China. peace!
Quote from a user here with the nick “malaysian”
“Thank god and welcome back……happy to see u again, anyway u sound a arrogant when commenting on telor rebus as a dog food and not having aircond…. just think of other poor people. Did you know eggs alone is incomplete diet and may cause diarrea if you stomach is not careful, she never says it’s dog food, secondly she said the only time she had aircond when she was intervied or investigated in the room. What has that to do with arrogance and being Malaysian?? Please do not put words in people’s mouth. She never said said telur rebus is dog food. But heck, I do give my dogs telur rebus at time 🙂
hi YB TERESA
I giv a big salute to u, & believe all Malaysians with conscience r proud of u too, u r true Malaysian…not those arrogant clowns/idiots who always misuse of power & giv all the kindergarden excuses.
Wish u all the best !

this fler got some theory about why YB is arrested
http://www.malaysiawaves.com/2008/09/teresa-kok-was-tool-to-bigger-objective.html
Lee wee tak, the article could be true as the ISA detention on several bloggers and a journalist point to this direction cos if PAS joined BN AAB would be a hero to BN. RPK, Penarik Beca and kickdefeella have written some articles in connection with PAS umno talks and it so happened that Teresa kok was made a scapegoat as she was aligned to DAP perceived to be anti Islam. Anyway in malaysian politics the real reasons will never be revealed
Dear Mother Teresa,
I wont even apologise for calling you “Mother Teresa” now because of your photo proofs that you have visited even sick moslems during the month of Ramadhan and wearing a red Baju Kurung, and participate in ramadhan activities.
To me, this outdated UMNO govt is soooo jealous of your success with your people, that the only way they could disrupt your popularity is to abuse the ISA on you.
So the police took 7 days to interrogate you on three simple issues, not only that is a sign of incompetence, but obviously done simply to punish and harass a popular person. The UMNO leaders are madly jealous that your supporters are not only chinese now but all other races found in Malaysia.
Enough of prayers, parties, flowers and poetries…
I expect follow up actions… which are..
1. Pursue lawsuit against UTUSAN & Khir Toyol for 30 Million, right to the supreme court or even ICJ.
2. Police and UMNO should also be sued for 8 million, one million for each day of your solitary confinement without just cause. Every Malaysians believe your detention was pure HARASSMENT and nothing to do with ISA or security of this country.
With or without YOUR blessing, even if your legal team has dropped the lawsuit, I will continue my personal campaign against UTUSAN, KHIR TOYOL and UMNO until they pay you the original 30 Million lawsuit.
that all these three entities shall now be boycotted by Malaysians in any way possible. eg dont read UTUSAN, dont subscribe adverts in UTUSAN, dont buy all of the other UTUSAN publication. Let only the diehard UMNO feeds the UTUSAN, dont even vote BN or UMNO even if your father is the candidate…
UMNO must apologise with compensation, otherwise I will continue the internet campaign
Finally, AT least tell your supporting team to grant my request, that you republish in your blog all the other activities that was in your archives before your detention.
These includes all your previous articles with photos, Ramadhan etc.. and our scientific discussion on the use of solar energy. I was shock and disappointed that all of these news have disappeared from your blog.
Scientific discussion is supposed to be good to our country.
Thank you
sabahfan
NEW ERA said…. //…cos if PAS joined BN AAB would be a hero to BN//
Just wondering why should there be people that still believe that PAS will join UMNO?
The issue has already been cleared and confirmed that PAS will never join UMNO. These two parties are supposed to be brothers but unfortunately PAS has decided that UMNO is not the good trusted friend.
How come you distrust PAS’s final decision?
BTW, welcome home, TERESA. PAS (unlike UMNO) respects all innocent individuals regardless of religions.
Teresa I’ve only come to know about the work you’re doing from the developments last week. Good on you for standing up for whats right and what is needed in this generation in Malaysia.
For quite awhile in my ignorance having not resided in Malaysia for almost 6 years – i thought and preconceived the idea that politics in Malaysia is nothing more than a lost cause.
But after reading the developments leading up and until your release – it gives more than a flicker of hope that there are people out there in Malaysia who will take a stand for true Malaysians.
God bless you, Keep it up. Y
Hi YB Teresa,
You have made Malaysian proud, I support your struggle. You are like a candle burning your self while brightening others.
Don’t be discourage by the whole episode, be strong, and rest assure you have our strongest backing.
Welcome back YB.
Please describe in detail the living condition of your detention when you meet T. Murugiah.
a)refusal to allow you to collect your change of clothes etc before detention,
b)the condition of the bed you had to sleep,
c)the washroom facilities,
d)the condition of the room, whether it was cleaned daily, clean bedsheets, pillows, blanket, presence of mosquitoes etc
e)the type of breakfast, lunch and dinner served. I am sure you can describe what you ate and roughly how much it would cost.
f) lighting and ventilation of the room,
g) privacy
It is hoped that the international press will pick these up and publish worldwide, just to show what goes on when you are detained. For most of the time highlight was given to the reasons why you have been detained, instead of the living conditons.
I am sure the authorities just wanted you to make you suffer the inconviences during detention, inspite of their case against you was very weak.
If T. Murugiah is surprised on your living conditions, I am sure your supporters will want to know what you had to live through for one week.
Hi Malaysian,
I do not see any arrogance in YB’s comments. She is just telling the truth of what happened.
I presume there is a budget for the supply of food to the detainees. Now T. Murugiah is going to know what was charged out and what was supplied.
Say, if you are given RM10.00 food allowance and you are supplied RN2.00 food.Would you keep quiet? If you are so concerned of the poor people, I presume you are donating some money to them from your income every month?
sirrganass, go read the article, there is a faction in PAS under Mustafa Ali who is still hanging to the concept of UMNO ketuanan melayu
Teresa
Glad you got released. I kept you in my prayers the last few days.
However, i was not impressed when you whinned about the food. Reality is many poor can’t even afford what you call dog-food. I met one cleaner in Teknologi Park Malaysia who told me she often could not afford rice for her kids. They eat biscuits for dinner.
If you had meant that the budget for food was not used properly to feed those held, you don’t have to mention it as dog-food. I am dissappointed.
DEAR KAINPELEKAT…and all the rest who criticised about the “dog food” tag.
I wont even apologise to say u must have a pea brain…
I DISAGREE, BECOS Mother Teresa has every right to complaint about her food, it should be called dog and pigs food.
ONE, if rm 10 was the budget for the food of detainees but the food supplied was good only for dogs or pigs, then apart from the violation of human rights, someone in the police department has committed gross CORRUPTION by pocketing about rm8 per meal per detainee…Thats a lot of taxpayers money going to the corrupted guys.
Secondly, MTeresa has every right to enjoy the food deserving that of an MP since she is not found guilty of any crime yet. As it was, she was already punished like a common criminal, then just thrown out of jail without any apologies.
If i get treated that way, I will also sue RM1 million for every dogs food that i was forced to eat in their stupid jail. Why the stupid cops not save our tax money by allowwing MT’s mother to bring her food everyday in detention?
The only answer to that question are:
1. to harass the detainee
2. to pocket the balance of money spent on detainees food.
I know many stories of detainees at police lock up. When families of detainees bring food to them, these good food get eaten by the cops while the cops spent the tax money giving the detainee dogs and pigs food.
One Suhakam Commissioner (some Dr Hamdan or somebody) once told us in KK that when he visited a police lock up, the cops there will try their best to slow him down, like “can you wait a while sir, and have a cup of tea, coffee, etc” while they quickly go to the cells and dress up the detainees who are actually only in their underwear at that time.
We all know how the police do their stuff.
I do not see anything wrong in YB’s comments on the dog-food. In fact she is doing us a favour, in case we are detained by ISA, they will at least improve on the food. She is an MP and is used to eating better food than that served during her detention.
Try being detained for one week under ISA and then not complain about the living conditions?
What you hear and what your see are two different things. There are many people around who are homeless and have no food to eat for dinner. What do we do?
We ask them to stay in our house and serve them food daily?
We should have ISA detainees to be located in 5 Stars Hotels around KL. They should be detain in the Superior Suite with complete facilities, so their family can come and pay visits at all times.
I wonder your stand on the two different statement you’ve made recently.
u memang anjing, so patut bagi makan macam anjing
selalu menyalak tak tentu pasal
jangan kacau ISLAM lagi, kalau tidak lepas ni kau akan jadi BABI pulak
(Yes, she a dog — a public watchdog. Woof!) Moderator
it was a mistake to release this kind and type of human. The world realy dont need this kind of people. LORD definately embarrased by the wrong doing. ‘Dog’ is chinese friend right… so don’t complained you ate your best friend food. Cina bangsat.
