MCA’s Datuk Chua Tee Yong refused tonight a debate over Selangor’s debt recovery exercise from Talam Corporation with four representatives of the state government, leading to accusations from the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) politicians that he feared the truth.
The four PR lawmakers had been appointed official spokesmen on the Talam controversy by Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and had turned up tonight at a function organised by MCA for Chua to debate the mentri besar.
“We want a platform for two sides to speak in a mature way and let people decide who is right or wrong,” DAP’s Tony Pua, one of the four official representatives of Selangor for the Talam issue, told reporters.
“Datuk Chua Tee Yong does not want to debate with any of the representatives elected by Selangor,” he said.
The other three state-appointed representatives – PAS’ Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, PKR’s William Leong, Selangor Mentri Besar’s political secretary Faekah Husin – were also present at the debate organised by MCA.
The four had arrived to cheers and claps from half of the audience present at the venue.
They decided to leave the International Youth Centre hall in Cheras after MCA insisted on a debate between Chua and Khalid.
They left the hall to loud jeers from MCA supporters in the audience.
A brief commotion broke out outside the hall with shouts and pushes from supporters of both MCA and PR.
“What right does he (Chua) have to ask mentri besar to debate with him?” Pua asked, saying that Chua is in “no position” to make such a demand.
“Any of us is prepared to debate with Datuk Chua Tee Yong even after this,” Pua added.
“In actual fact, he is just running away from the truth…he’s scared to debate with us,” he said.
Pua, Dzulkefly and Leong had previously challenged Chua to attend a forum on the Talam issue in Labis, Johor this Sunday.
Last week, Khalid said that top audit firm KPMG had cleared the Selangor government of any irregularities in its RM392 million debt recovery exercise involving the company formerly known as Talam Corporation and declared it a “sound commercial decision”.
Pua had also previously said that “every sen has been collected back from Talam”, referring to the RM392 million debt that was owed to Selangor state subsidiaries.
MCA had alleged that the state government’s dealings with Talam — now known as Trinity Corporation — was lopsided and had ended up costing taxpayers up to RM1 billion.
Chua Tee Yong is a nobody except a lappie.Do not waste time and be distracted by going after this useless, good for nothing son of Dr Chuah. If not for Dr Chuah,he will be an unknown janitor cleaning the toilets of Putrajaya for his masters, the umnoputras.
YB,dont waste your precious time on this young idiot. Like father like son, totally useless.
This is where the rakyat are able to separate the men from the boys. An opportunity missed for the rakyat to gauge who are better at good governance and accountability.
Both BN & PAKATAN RAKYAT leaders are behaving so ‘childishly’. It’s a “BIG SHAME” to the country & ‘the rakyat’. Don’t these ignorant leaders realize that their actions of requesting for debates & snubbing debates are soOoOoOoOo ‘OUTDATED’???
This applies to the Selangor MB (Khalid), Chua Tee Yong (BN) & also those DAP leaders (Tony Pua & gang). Can they use something god gave them called brains as debates will NOT solve the bladdy problem!!! Debates won’t bring constructive changes!!! & debates won’t prove who is better & worse!!! “Debate is only for show as to capture glamour & cheap attention!!!”. I rather reckon these leaders to focus on their job instead of trying to steal cheap limelight by showing-off who is a better orator & otherwise. If these leaders are more interested in capturing publicity, then, they might as well QUIT politics & go into the entertainment industry. Can someone tell these stooge leaders they aren’t in kindergarten anymore??? Where’s their brains???
G.E. will soon be coming & there are abundance of work to do. This applies to both BN & PAKATAN RAKYAT & may I emphasize that wasting time in debating just won’t win you votes. ‘The rakyat’ are no longer STUPID as these leaders might have thought. ‘The rakyat’ have the eyes to see & the brains to evaluate which leader is genuinely working & which leader is ALL TALK but NO WORK. Now….”cut all the cock talking (debate) & get down to work!!!”. We want a hard working ‘wakil rakyat’ & NOT a fairy story telling ‘wakil rakyat’!!!
Good luck both PAKATAN RAKYAT & BN candidates!!! Shut up & get down to work!!!
First Khalid Ibrahim cabut lari & now Chua Tee Yong’s turn to cabut lari. Next, maybe Tony Pua cabut lari when Perkasa offer to debate & this goes on & on & on & on & on till the lembu comes home. These idiots involved in these debates are sheer morons. Had they lost themselves in the Circus instead of being in politics? I call these bunch of politicians “Ahli Politik yang sesat”.
Perhaps they think votes will come from these debates? Say one word, get one vote? They must be surely dreaming…..*sigh*
Why sent four to meet a young fellow who MB said is politically not his size? each PR is only 25% of one MCA?
MB Let me do it alone for you and I allow young chua to partner his dad too!
Debates do have their uses.
That’s why one finds that in the US, the front-runners in the ruling party and the opposition have been having debates that went on for months!
These debates are another layer that separate the wheat from the chaff.
And it is quite apparent now that US opposition candidate is the chaff!
He pulled off gaffe after gaffe!!!
Here, it’s the opposite.
The ruling party is the one exhibiting gaffe after gaffe!!!
That’s why debates are very often a NO-NO as far as they are concerned.
The more they talk, the more they expose their skeletons!
And stupidity!!
Anyway, whether they want to debate or not, Malaysians are now a knowing lot and that doesn’t bode well for them at all!!!!
Please ask him to go back to work as Deputy Agriculture Minister. I am paying his salary for doing nothing (gaji buta). Not that he is any good as a deputy minister either.
