KUALA LUMPUR: Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has urged Bukit Aman to increase police presence in areas in the city that experience high crime rates.
“Citizens don’t feel safe in their own homes” despite government announcements that crime rates have dropped, she said at a press conference where two Seputeh residents recounted their experience as victims of burglary and physical assault.
Both alleged that police were dragging their feet in handling their cases despite there being CCTV evidence of the crimes taking place.
See Yeap Heng, a 32-year-old furniture dealer, said he lodged a report with the Petaling police station on March 22, the same day that burglars broke into his home at the Bukit Awansari Condominium in Taman Yarl and made off with RM40,000 in jewellery and foreign currency.
“Police came to take some photographs and did nothing after that,” he said.
On March 24, See obtained from the condominium management a CCTV recording that had captured the burglars in action. He gave a copy of the clip to the officer investigating his case, whom he identified only as Inspector Sahad.
He said nothing developed after that although Sahad promised to get a forensics team to examine the clip.
“I phoned him constantly, but he kept saying that they were short-handed. He even told me once to go apprehend the burglars myself.”
See said Sahad was now ignoring his calls.
Beaten by neighbour
The assault victim is 60-year-old real estate agent Loh Siew Yoo of Taman Sri Petaling 2. She lodged her report on July 23, also with the Petaling police station. She alleged that she was beaten up by a neighbour, whom she named as Lim Kee Chong.
“He assaulted me after accusing me of parking my car outside his house although I’ve never done that before.”
She said police arrived at the scene promptly after her telephone call for help, but did nothing more than ask her to make a police report.
She too regularly called the police for updates, but the investigating officer, Inspector Fasrul, kept saying the matter was under investigation.
“Finally, one day, he just told me that Lim could not be charged because he merely used his hands on me. What is he talking about? What if he had strangled me? ”
Loh added that she had a CCTV recording of the assault but the police never made an effort to obtain it from her.
“I do not feel safe as Lim has threatened to hit me again.”
MP Kok said would write to KL police chief Mohmad Salleh to ask him to take immediate action over the reports by See and Loh.
She said she saw no reason for delays in the investigations.
To cite manpower shortage would be a lame excuse, she added. “If they do lack manpower, Bukit Aman should deploy more officers to areas with high crime rates.”
FMT was unable to reach Mohmad for comments.

We now have the biggest police force in the world taking into consideration of the population of Malaysia. How can you call for a bigger one than this ?
More crimes and murders are committed by the police who are supposed to prevent them from happening to begin with. So don’t even expect the quarter cooked to investigate what they are good at. By now the people of Malaysia should know the quarter cooked police force is only a branch of the deceitful and corrupted Umno and most of all lackeys of Umno.
The perpetual calls for any change will never take place and the only thing to do is vote the Umnoputras out of their places.
YB
Yes, we are under seige from criminals. We are staying behind bars and barriers, guarded by illegal immigrants. We are seperated from our neighbours by fence. Public roads are now closed to public.
We are paying more than our yearly assessment for this ordeal. My neighbours along the same road, are paying RM 8,800 a month, for the privilege of living in peace ie just for one road. Please multiply by 10 for the whole garden.
Please YB, isn’t ANYBODY bringing this up in Parliament. It is a national issue when the government cannot provide basic security to the public. Public safety is the function of the government. If the government cannot provide, then propose to make it tax exempted and legalise it.
But what about those that could not afford guarded roads? Are they doomed to live in fear?
Who are the people behind the security companies making them millions? Who are these people? Are these companies own by some important people?
Will someone be willing to take the bull by the horns and solve the problem, once and for all.PEMANDU is reporting nonsense.
We want to live in peace, without fear and barriers.
Thanks
My house was broken in few years back in Taman Desa. Police report was made but till today there is no followup on this case or whatsoever. Maybe if some VIP house got broken in then it will be totally different. In addition to that, it seems that police nowadays are very busy setting roadblocks around Jalan Kelang Lama, but the fact is that social security has dropped to a level never experienced before. I have been travelling to Jakarta ecently and find there are similar issues whereby their entire residential area is secured by armed (machine guns) security officers and Taman Desa is no different but within the G&G concept which refers to Gated and Guarded Community. Are we heading that direction?
Dear YB,
I have a few questions pertaining to OKR Old Klang Road. Why there is such construction being continued as the high powered electricity project was supposed to be abandoned? Any update on this issue?
Also since the security is not very convincing nowadays, the function of CCTV should be highlighted and implement at OKR Old Klang Road.
Police or DBKL is only interested in any profitable but since security is the very foundation of any society, why can’t they just implement the CCTV for any wrong-doings such as double parking, road bully etc.. the profit from the summon should go to a fund to contribute back to society so that everyone can feel secured or less worried.
That’s just my 2 cents.
