Pakatan Rakyat member of parliament Teresa Kok and PKR’s deputy youth chief Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainuddin have joined the list of politicians and political activists summoned to give their statements to the police over the Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9.
According to a press release issued earlier today, Kok (left) – who is DAP’s national organising secretary – has been scheduled to be at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur at 3pm to have her statement recorded.
Khairul Anuar gave his statement this morning.
When contacted, Khairul said the police told him investigation papers were opened under Section 27(5) of the Police Act relating to illegal assembly.
He also said that among the questions he was asked was whether on June 17 in a ceramah in Sabak Bernam he had invited people to come to Kuala Lumpur on July 9.
Khairul added that the police had asked what the response of the audience was to his call.
“I chose to exercise my rights and will take this to court,” he told Malaysiakini.
With Khairul (right) this morning was lawyer Latheefa Koya.
Yesterday, PAS’ Jerai MP Mohd Firdaus Jaafar gave his statement to the police in Parliament yesterday along with Gombak MP and PKR deputy president Mohd Azmin Ali.
Firdaus, who is a PAS youth leader, is among the few from the Islamist party to have been called over the rally slated to take place next week.
The intensification – and widening – of the crackdown on the coalition pushing for free and fair elections saw as many as 14 people arrested – including two PKR and DAP state legislators – this morning in Perak.
A few hours afterwards, about 20 police officers swooped down on Bersih’s nerve center when they raided its office in office in Petaling Jaya.
Several prominant activists have also been called to give their statements today.
Bersih 2.0 steering committee member Maria Chin Abdullah, social activist Hishamuddin Rais, workers’ group Tenaganita chief Irene Fernandez, and Latheefa, who is with non-governmental organisation Lawyers for Liberty, are slated to be at the Dang Wangi police headquarters this afternoon.
In all, slightly under 100 people have been arrested so far in the run-up to the rally.
The situation is now beyond political parties, not even umno or perkasa or bersih can stop it…the people’s frustration has erupted. It’s become a bread and butter issue which city folks are so angry about.
Why raid only the Bersih secretariat? Why not raid those of Perkasa esp their dickhead IA and Umno Youth as well since they will also be holding rallies? Kerismuddin and that dickhead IA from Perkasa are both the same. My fellow Malaysians, please take note of this practice of double standards and relate it to everyone you know so they may know the true situation in this country. As a matter of fact, Umno politicians is shitting in its own pants and is resorting to terrorising Malaysian citizens.
These terrorist acts will be remembered by the people of Malaysia, and when it is judgement time, Malaysia will decide their fate.
Let’s hope everything will be as clean and fair as possible for the upcoming GE.
Looking at the way things are progressing i doubt’ that Malaysia will be sharing the same freedom to vote as our northern neighbour..
