DAP’s Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah has denied several claims by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation unit head Hairul Ilham Hamzah before the ongoing royal commission of inquiry (RCI).
Ean Yong, who was the employer of Teoh Beng Hock, said he deems the accusations to be “baseless” and that he had already responded to the same issues during the inquest into Teoh’s death.
In a statement today, Ean Yong responded point by point to three issues – on alleged failure to obtain three quotations for state government projects; alleged failure to complete certain projects; and alleged kickbacks to Selangor DAP and Teoh himself.
To the first allegation, Ean Yong (right) reiterated that – according to Selangor treasury rules – a state assemblyperson does not need to obtain three quotations to organise a function or to award an infrastructure project that costs below RM20,000.
To the second claim, he said that his lawyer Salim Bashir had shown photographs of four projects to MACC investigating officer Mohd Anuar Ismail, who had then agreed that the projects had been completed.
“The MACC officer should check the particulars at the Land Office before (making) the accusation, because technical officers have to certify completion of a project before (paying) the contractor,” he said.
As for the alleged kickbacks – said to range from 10-90 percent – Ean Yong insisted that neither the DAP nor Teoh had ever taken a cut from contractors or suppliers.
“We have documents to prove that the accusations made by Hairul Ilham are pure lies, and show that he did not carry out proper investigations (but has instead) framed accusations against Teoh and DAP.
“What happened was, in many cases, the DAP branch or certain party members paid up-front to the organisers of programmes. When we got back the (money) from the Land Office, we reimbursed the branch or members who had footed the bill.”
He said it is clear that the actions of the MACC officers are “politically motivated with the intention to tarnish the image of the Selangor exco and elected representatives of Pakatan Rakyat.
‘No provision for contribution’
Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim, meanwhile, told a press conference in Shah Alam today that he is unaware of the allegation that DAP had received a cut from four projects in Serdang.
Khalid categorised this as a form of bribery and noted that “the state government has no provision…for anyone who gets the contract to be given a contribution”.
“That is wrong. That is bribery,” he said when asked to comment.
it is very clear, after more than 2 years, MACC who has wide investigative power can only accuse and alledge, but unable to present a case that can satisfy basic standard of proof.
the evidence presented so far is how a man can strangle himself
if najib administration tries to score brownie points by having MACC officers look like their normally silly selves in the RCI, too little, too late and woefully inadequate…pls do not insult Malaysian’s judgment
MACC is a liaility to the nation. It does not help eliminate evils, instead creating evils and been used by certain group as vehicle for eliminationg or harassing persons or group with justice in mind.
Let tame or expose the najing.
