A response on the Malaysian Pavilion in Shanghai

Posted on Sunday, 20-06-2010 by -ec-

Interior of Malaysian pavilion.

Shortly after I posted my response to Thumb Logic on his unjustifiable explanation on the failure of Malaysian Pavilion in Shanghai World Expo, I received the following email from a little bird (Read here for context) :

1. The roof was built to specification. You may note that the rain in Shanghai is more agressive than the rain in Malaysia. Hence, you cannot balme the contractor for the leaks. (reply: the roof and rain water was the cause of the flooded stage and damage the speakers and its clearly a design problem which further confirmed the inexperience of the contractor, this complaint was highlighted many times by the Malaysian dance troupe, we should witness more complaint soon as Shanghai is expected to have more rain next month)

2. We wanted to build two stairs. But we could not because the cement brought from Malaysia was insuffucuent (reply: any reason to import cement from Malaysia, when the rest of the world’s pavilion buys cheaper and better cement in China??? Anyway there is only one stair on the submitted plan by contractor, which again confirmed the inexperience of the contractor)

3. The balckouts are due to the irregular voltage of the electricity supply to the Expo.(reply: this is another technical problem by the inexperience contractor using cheap and sub-standard electrical material and sub-standard expertise)

4. We have met all the requirements for the issuance of a CF. We were topd that it has been approved. (reply: asked for the approval letter, as we are aware Malaysian pavilion fail the last inspection by the shanghai authority)

5. As regards the food, most of it was brought from Malaysia to be halal compliant (reply: Taiwanese and Local Chinese are currently running the entire restaurant, the original contract was awarded to a (Proxy) Malaysian chef which was sacked by the Taiwanese last month, and most of the raw material are local, that’s why the taste is NO where near Malaysian, the Council General (Dato’Azmil) in Shanghai is fully aware of this matter)

6. In ASEAN we have a good understanding. We are all equal and we do not compete with each other for prominance and we can veto any resolution if we want to. (reply: where are the Malaysian Technology showcase?? (MSC, Biotechnology, HalalHub, and Etc. is the design of Malaysian Pavilion in line with the world expo 2010 theme “Better City, Better Life”)

7. As regard the queue, please be reminded that China is a Socialist nation and all VIPs are treated like normal citizens.(reply: VIP passes were given to ex-Malaysian official and friends of contractors during their visit)

“inexperience contractor”, “inappropriate and insufficient materials”- a damning indictment on the procurement process, back to the old calls for open tender and say no to contracts awarded to cronies…..

the image of Malaysia has been damaged overseas, we only used to disgraced ourselves within our borders with those tofu projects…now we don’t give a damn whether we disgrace ourselves overseas…a bad habit developed because the false sense of security provided by shiok sendiri controlled MSM

the is the same government who says subsidies must be cut…why can’t people use their own taxes to pay for their living expenses? less money for you and me so that the cronies can still keep their big happy family?

    But this is typical Malaysia.
Want to be involved in everything but really good at nothing.
Only further evidence what a useless bunch of people, starting with the
trade ministry. What further proof do you need ? Accept the reality Malaysia, or may be as usual find a scapegoat to take the blame !

Not a day goes by where Malaysia becomes the joke of the day. It is sickening and disheartening to to know that the government will continue to be arrogant and to refuse to change.

Malaysia seriously needs a two party system for check and balance. BN has been in power for too long and only the blind cannot see the incompetency and corruption that is continuing to contribute to the destruction of Malaysia.

The ceiling in Jalan Duta Court complex fell again.. This is the quality of work done by Malaysian contractors – at least the ones doing work for the govt. So, there is nothing wrong with the Malaysia Pavilion by this standard.
