MalaysiaKini has reported on the statement I made today that the police’s questioning of Ean Yong is politically motivated and a waste of valuable and limited resources needed for crime-fighting.

11:02amAnother police report was lodged against Seri Kembangan state assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah this morning after a police officer claimed that he was forced to “confiscate” a press statement from him.
However, Ean Yong (left) insisted that he had voluntarily given the press statement to ASP Ahmad Fauzi Mohamed Zin from the Shah Alam district police headquarters when he was questioned this morning.
He added that the officer also told him to sign a seizure list which he had refused to sign.
“This is ludicrous. Why does he have to do this when I have given him the press statement voluntarily?” he asked.
Ean Yong was called in for investigation over his recent media remarks which were deemed a threat to the police.Previously, the police had filed a report against the Selangor DAP chief when he publicly urged the police to stop investigating Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for sedition.
Ean Yong was accompanied by his lawyer and Segambut member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng to have his statement recorded.
Criminal intimidation? In the summons letter issued by the police to Ean Yong, the Selangor exco was warned that he could be arrested under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code if he failed to turn up for questioning.
It is believed that the police are investigating him under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The police are also investigating Guan Eng (right) for claiming that Ean Yong’s former aide Teoh Beng Hock was murdered.
The chief minister made the comment during the Pakatan Rakyat convention in Shah Alam on Dec 19.
Ean Yong told reporters that Guan Eng was also summoned by the police this morning but could not be present due to a hectic schedule.
“I was informed by Lim that the police have agreed to defer the appointment to a later date,” he said.
Kok: Investigate genuine cases
In a related development, Ean Yong’s party counterpart Teresa Kok, who is also a state exco member, said the police investigation was politically motivated and a waste of resources meant for crime-fighting
“It is laughable for the police to have interpreted Ean Yong’s statement as criminal intimidation because nowhere in Ean Yong’s statement did he threaten the police in any way,” she said in a statement.
She said that the police should focus on the actual criminals instead of investigating Ean Yong and Guan Eng.
“There have been numerous cases where police reports have been lodged by Pakatan Rakyat leaders as well as members of the public for which the police have been unresponsive and slow to act,” she said.
She cited her own police report lodged on Oct 1, 2009 over a death threat which she had received in a comment on her blog. Kok said the police have failed to nab anyone over the matter until now.
Similarly, Kok also cited the example of a police report lodged by Selangor exco member Rodziah Ismail on Sept 12 last year against a man who had threatened to rape her.
“Now this is genuine criminal intimidation, and yet the police have yet to take action against this man,” she said, adding that the police should immediately stop their investigation against Ean Yong.
Whose ’causes’ are the police serving?
They must be seen to serve without any bias and fair in their investigations!
