Press Statement by Teresa Kok, Selangor State Senior Exco and Member of Parliament for Seputeh on 5 January 2009 in Shah Alam
Polis DiRaja Malaysia’s questioning of Ean Yong Hian Wah for allegedly intimidating the police is politically motivated and a waste of valuable and limited resources meant for crime-fighting
Selangor State Police Chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar should be given the rap for wasting Polis DiRaja Malaysia’s (PDRM) limited and precious resources investigating Selangor State Senior EXCO Ean Yong Hian Wah, under Penal Code Session 506 Punishment for criminal intimidation, only for having urged the police to stop its investigation of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for sedition.
In his statement which was issued in Malay, Ean Yong had written that, “Saya menyeru pihak polis supaya menghentikan siasatan terhadap Guan Eng dengan serta-merta. Rakyat mahu kerajaan Barisan Nasional untuk mengembalikan maruah dan kebenaran kepada Teoh Beng Hock.”
It is laughable for PDRM to have interpreted this statement by Ean Yong as criminal intimidation because nowhere in Ean Yong’s statement did he threaten PDRM in any way.
PDRM’s reaction to Ean Yong’s statement is an over-reaction and completely uncalled for. It indicates arrogance in PDRM which seems to regard itself as being beyond reproach and is completely closed to any kind of call to action by politicians and the public.
By pursuing such absurd investigation of Ean Yong – as well as PDRM’s other ongoing investigation of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for alleged sedition – it appears that the PDRM is particularly targeting Pakatan Rakyat leaders instead of focusing on the actual criminals who are the real threats to Malaysians everywhere. What a waste of PDRM’s limited and valuable resources!
There have been numerous cases where police reports have been lodged by Pakatan Rakyat leaders as well as members of the public for which the PDRM have been unresponsive and slow to act.
On 1 October 2009, I lodged a police report on a death threat which I received in a comment on my blog. Until now, the police have failed to nab the culprit which I find unacceptable.
Another case is Selangor State EXCO’s Rodziah Ismail police report on 12 September 2009 regarding a man who had threatened to rape her. He had said to her, “Aku akan rogol kau, Rodziah!” and this was witnessed by many. Now this is genuine criminal intimidation, and yet the police have yet to take action against this man.
I urge Khalid Abu Bakar to stop this investigation of Ean Yong immediately. Stop allowing PDRM to be abused as a political lapdog by Barisan Nasional and return PDRM to its true mission which is to prevent crime and catch the criminals of this country and restore a sense of safety and security for all Malaysians.
PDRM’s reaction to Ean Yong’s statement is an over-reaction and completely uncalled for. It indicates arrogance in PDRM which seems to regard itself as being beyond reproach and is completely closed to any kind of call to action by politicians and the public. – Teresa
All these indicate that we, the electorate of this country, cannot tolerate the UMNO/BN government anymore.
So, the faster we get rid of them, the better.
I hope that our politicians and the electorate are just as determined in this area. No more “I think that the Federal government is now truly reforming – give them another chance” sort of routine.
No ifs, no buts, UMNO/BN government out!!
Just make very sure that this message is spread far and wide with all the fervour one can muster.
PDRM should rightly be renamed PRDM : Polis Raja Di Malaysia!
What else can we describe them?
