Last Sunday, I was at the 20th Annual Luncheon of Selangor King George V Silver Jubilee Home to celebrate Senior Citizens’ Day. This home is a refuge for poor and aged Chinese women in the state of Selangor located at Jalan Jubilee, off Jalan Loke Yew in Kuala Lumpur.
This home was established in 1937, when Malaya was still under colonial rule. That’s why this home falls under the governance of the Selangor state government instead of the current-day Federal Territory. Elizabeth Wong, Ronnie Liu and I are the three Selangor EXCOs who sit on the board of trustees of this Home.
With my fellow trustees, holding the plate of fruits presented by the lion dancer. From L-R: Dato’ Yong Seng Yeow, myself, Ronnie Liu, Senator Tan Sri Datuk Tee Hock Seng.
Seated from left to right: Dato’ Yong Seng Yeow, Professor Datuk Dr Abdullah Malim Baginda and his wife, myself and Elizabeth Wong.
Chatting with fellow Senator Tan Sri Datuk Tee Hock Seng who is Treasurer-General of MCA, who is also an old friend of my father. Even though he and I belong to different political parties, it is not a barrier for us to work together on the issue of senior citizen welfare which transcends party politics. I took this chance to ask him about Ong Tee Keat and MCA.
We had entertainment from this choir by a senior citizens’ group from Taman Desa.
