**Statement by Teresa Kok (MP for Seputeh) on 6th March 2025 Regarding the MACC Investigation into Edmund Teoh Keng Yaik and Ng Yoot Kuen**
On 14th November 2024, in my capacity as the Member of Parliament for Seputeh, I delivered a speech in Parliament raising pertinent concerns about the rationale behind the Federal Territory Education Department’s request for and provision of smartboards. This speech, which was part of my duty to hold the government accountable, was published in full on my social media platforms for transparency and public record. (For reference: [link to speech](https://teresakok.my/?p=27173) & (https://www.facebook.com/TeresaKokSuhSim/videos/ucapan-dalam-kamar-khas-oleh-teresa-kok-ahli-parlimen-seputeh-di-sidang-parlimen/1823837885121123/?rdid=t0OkIp7ct6k6n1dI)).
However, this morning (6th March 2025), I was stunned to learn that two of my former staff members, Edmund Teoh Keng Yaik and Ng Yoot Kuen, have been summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to provide statements in Putrajaya, apparently in relation to the contents of my parliamentary speech. To my further dismay, I have been informed that Edmund Teoh has been remanded by the MACC for further investigation until Sunday.
It is critical to underscore that my speech was not an attack on any individual or department but a call for transparency regarding the disparity in the procurement of smartboards by the Federal Territory Education Department. I have no knowledge or involvement in the reasons behind the MACC’s decision to remand Edmund Teoh, and it is completely outside of my control.
What I find deeply regrettable and disheartening is the fact that, despite my commitment to transparency and accountability, I am now being unfairly blamed by certain members of my own party and the families of my former staff for the actions taken by the MACC against Edmund and Ng.
Let me be unequivocally clear: the MACC is an independent body, and its investigation is being carried out without interference. The decisions and actions of the MACC are theirs alone to make, and no one, including myself, has any power or influence over them. Therefore, I strongly urge all parties to refrain from engaging in baseless speculation or making unfounded accusations at this time.
We must allow the investigative process to proceed without obstruction. It is essential that we respect the rule of law and give the authorities the space they need to carry out their work impartially and thoroughly.
Thank you.
