KOTA KINABALU, November 7, 2006: Once again, DAP has reminded Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai to stop wasting time meddling in petty matters for some cheap publicities, and start focusing on other issues that are far more significant and fitting his various positions including that of a full cabinet minister of Sabah.
Issuing the terse reminder was DAP Kepayan branch chairman Steven Jimbangan in a statement issued here yesterday, in response to yet another round of publicity stint by Dr Yee, this time involving the construction of a road hump adjacent to the roundabout in Taman Foh Sang, Luyang, opposite the KFC restaurant.
Jimbangan noted that Dr Yee had apparently inspected the said road hump twice i.e. when it was completed on last Friday, and followed by the second one on last Monday, when the Public Works Department (PWD) painted the yellow stripes on the road to caution the motorist of the road hump.
“We have been receiving a lot of complaints from some of the residents of Luyang who were obviously disgusted with the MP’s (Dr Yee) antics of seeking for cheap publicity, as prominently reported in the local Chinese newspapers on his inspection of the road hump in Taman Foh Sang recently, which they (the complainants) thought was ridiculous and trivial for a full minister-cum-MP-cum-Assemblyman to give his full attention.
“They especially questioned whether the MP really has got nothing better or more important to do than to waste time on such petty matters which they believed can be easily taken care of by the MP’s aides or officers, or has he really forgotten the fact that he is also a full cabinet minister of Sabah under whose portfolio are plenty of important matters concerning the whole state which he should better focus on,” Jimbagan pointed out.
Besides this, he also claimed that many motorists had called him and other DAP leaders up to complain over the installation of the road hump there, describing it as absurd and unnecessarily disrupting the smoothness of the traffic flow there.
They argued that under the traffic law as well as a norm, a driver will normally automatically slow down upon approaching a roundabout and to give way to passing vehicles before proceeding to cross.
They also expressed great concern that the construction of the road hump there might in time to come increase the chances of accidents.
They also quipped that this could be the first-of-its-kind’s accident deterrent measure adopted in Malaysia, if not the entire world.
Jimbangan thus hoped the PWD could take heed of the motorists’ complaints and immediately remove the said road hump, before it become yet another major laughing stock in town or worse if it becomes a major contributing factor for road accident after this.
