Last Saturday, I was invited by the Joint Management Committee (JMC) of Scott Garden to the launch of Scott Garden drum circle community and refurbishment of the swimming pool at Scott Garden mall at Old Klang Road.
Scott Garden is a commercial cum SOHO project built on a 10- acre freehold land at 4th mile Old Klang Road. It has 1,080 SOHO units and 219 commercial lots.
Scott Garden is known as a happening place for shopping and entertainment. The pubs and entertainment outlets have had some unpleasant incidents which had tarnished its image.
Last year prior to MCO 1.0, I was invited by Ms Ong Poh See, the chair lady of the JMC of Scott Garden to officiate the opening of the french sports company Decathlon. She and her team briefed me about their efforts to transform Scott Garden into a family/community mall.
A year later, I was invited by her again to witness their efforts in the Scott Garden. The committee managed to get more and more F&B operators and IT companies to set up shop there.
At the same time, they have put in efforts to improve the living environment and facilities of the SOHO units, which includes a newly-refurbished swimming pool, improvements to the security and safety in Scott Garden.
On top of that, the JMC had engaged a group of youngsters to set up a drum circle here for the benefit of the Old Klang Road community. The drum circle will conduct training in the Scott Garden hall on the first Saturdays of every month from 3pm to 4pm, for the next 6 months, to teach all about drums.
The drum circle instructor then taught me and others how to play drums together. It was quite interesting.
I must say I am quite impressed with the genuine efforts put up by Ms Ong Poh See and the JMC to transform Scott Garden. It is sad that the JMC are facing a lot of challenges, one of them being, the fact that about half of the unit owners have been behind on the monthly maintenance bills.
Scott Garden is located in a strategic location in Old Klang Road. It has great potential to be developed into a viable community mall. I was told that there are about 5,000 owners and tenants in the mall.
I would like to urge these 5,000 owners and tenants of Scott Garden to patronise the restaurants and the various businesses in the mall, so that we can keep these businesses viable. I also urge owners and tenants to offer the JMC all support in their efforts to transform Scott Garden.
