Khalid says ready to work with Umno, PAS in GE14

I find Tan Sri Khalid’s statement interesting. If UMNO contests against PAS in a same constituency, or if there is a UMNO, PAS & PH three-corner-fight in a constituency, will he help UMNO or PAS? 😬

======================================

Former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today announced his readiness to work together with both Umno and PAS in Selangor for the upcoming 14th general elections.

“I will work to help Umno, but I have told my friends in PAS who had helped me in the past, I will also help them, to unite the ummah (people),” Khalid told a press conference after attending the Selangor Umno convention at PWTC, Kuala Lumpur.

Pressed to clarify his stand, Khalid said that he has maintained ties with both Umno and PAS, with the ultimate agenda of ensuring continuing progress for the people of Selangor.

At the same time, Khalid (left in photo) also reiterated that he has no intentions to contest in GE14 and will remain as an independent lawmaker.

Khalid had earlier made a surprise appearance at PWTC’s Dewan Merdeka alongside Umno de facto deputy president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who delivered the opening address at the closed-door Selangor Umno session.

Zahid told reporters there was no need for any quarters to question the rationale for Selangor Umno to engage Khalid, as well as other former Selangor MBs, as part of its election machinery.

“Khalid we know that his heart has remained ‘red and blue’… Eventhough he was in another ‘mansion’ before this. We always appreciated that,” he said, in reference to PKR, Khalid’s former party.

“Similarly Muhammad Muhammad Taib had changed two ‘mansions’ before this, but finally he chose the ‘red mansion’,” said Zahid (centre in photo), referring to the former Selangor menteri besar who was also present during the press conference.

Muhammad, better known as Mat Taib, had quit Umno in 2013 to join PAS. He subsequently left PAS to join PKR in 2015. He rejoined Umno in September.

Khalid, now the independent Bandar Tun Razak MP, formerly headed the PKR-led Selangor government but was sacked from his party in 2014.

Since then, Khalid has been spotted at numerous PAS events including two of its muktamars, as well as the Fastaqim 2.o rally in Terengganu in September.

At the time, the Port Klang assemblyperson said while he supported PAS’ struggles, he had no intention of joining the party.

Khalid was previously a member of Umno for almost 30 years before joining PKR in 2006.
