KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — The effect of the North-east Monsoon is expected to be felt from next week to March 2018 and result in four to five episodes of rain in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, eastern Johor and western Sarawak, according to the weatherman.
Meteorological Department director-general Alui Bahari said today the condition could trigger floods in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
“Early warning of heavy rain during the North-east Monsoon period will be issued one to three days ahead while the warning of thunderstorms will be issued if there are signs of thunderstorm intensity on the rise,” he said to Bernama.
He also said that the country was now experiencing the inter-monsoon transition and this was expected to last until mid-November.
“During this phase, there will be heavy rain and thunderstorms in the short term as well as more frequent strong winds in the afternoon and early evening in many areas in the states on the west coast, interior of the peninsula, Sabah west coast and western and central Sarawak,” he said.
Alui advised the people to take heed of the bad weather warning of the department and comply with the safety guidelines.
They should refer to the website of the department or the myCuaca smartphone application to obtain the latest information which was updated daily, he said.
He also said that the people should not circulate unconfirmed messages regarding the weather. — Bernama
