PH: Oct 14 anti-kleptocracy rally at Padang Timur still on

Posted on Monday, 30-10-2017Monday, 30-10-2017 by -ec-

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu says people can take LRT to venue and 700 party members and volunteers will be present to help mind traffic and security.

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan has dismissed the assertion from the Selangor police that the opposition coalition’s Oct 14 rally at Padang Timur here will cause traffic disruption.

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said there was no reason to move the rally to another venue or cancel it altogether as there was good public transport access to the venue and members from the component parties would be assisting with traffic flow.

“We will have the rally there. Those attending the rally are encouraged to take the LRT to the Taman Jaya station,” he said during a press conference at PPBM’s office here today, referring to the station along the LRT Kelana Jaya line.

He was responding to a letter issued by the police yesterday calling for the rally to be held elsewhere as it would disrupt traffic flow at Dataran Petaling Jaya as well as the feeder bus services.

The letter had also stated that Padang Timur may not be able to support the large crowd expected during the “Sayangi Malaysia, Hapus Kleptokrasi” rally.

However, Mohamad Sabu, who is more popularly known as Mat Sabu, said 700 party members and volunteers would help enforcement officers to mind the safety and security of the place, besides managing the traffic.

He added PH had also agreed to run the rally from 4pm to 11pm instead of ending it at midnight, so as to allow rally goers to take the last LRT out of Taman Jaya.

DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) international secretary Howard Lee, who was also at the press conference said the party would attach infographics of the rally and the public transport services on their official social media sites from today.

Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua said Padang Timur was the most suitable place to hold the rally.

“There is the LRT, people can attend the rally without driving. This will reduce traffic,” he said, adding that the field can accommodate 50,000 people.

“The duty of the police is not to block (the rally) but to protect the constitution that gives the right for a rally to be held in peace rather than to block it.”
