Posted on Thursday, 27-04-2017 by -ec-

PETALING JAYA: Condolences and heartfelt sympathies poured in for the family of Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi following news of the 11-year-old boy’s death on Wednesday.

Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar extended his condolences over Mohamad Thaqif’s death.

A picture of Mohamad Thaqif with the word “Al-Fatihah” was posted on both the Sultan’s official Facebook page and Instagram account.

“May his soul receive blessings and be placed among the righteous,” read the post.

A later post on both official social media accounts also shared the Johor Permaisuri Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah’s condolences over the death.

The post stated that she had visited Mohamad Thaqif and his parents at the hospital on Tuesday.

The Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) football team also offered their sympathy in a posting on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.

“We from JDT Family would like to offer condolences to the family of Allahyarham Mohamad Thaqif Amin, who passed away on April 26th 2017. May he rest in peace. Al-Fatihah,” read the statement.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak also expressed his condolences to Mohamad Thaqif’s family.

“I am sad to receive news of Mohd Thaqif Amin’s death at the Hospital Sultan Ismail, Johor Baru. Condolences to the family,” he said.

He also said he wanted investigation into his death to be accelerated.

“I want the investigations into the case to be accelerated so that we know the cause of his death and for legal action to be taken if there was an offence,” Najib said on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi posted a message of condolences to Mohamad Thaqif’s family on his official Twitter account.

“Condolences to the family, hoped he will be placed amongst the martyrs. Al-Fatihah,” he said.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai called for more to be done to protect the welfare of children.

“My heart ached upon hearing this sad news. Condolences to Mohamad Thaqif’s family,” he said.

Women, Family and Community Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said: “May heaven be the replacement of his dwelling and give patience to his family. May his soul be placed amongst those that are righteous.”

Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar also prayed that his soul would be placed amongst those of the righteous.

“I hope the family will remain strong and be given the strength to go through this test,” she said.

MIC treasurer-general Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari said that Mohamad Thaqif was not at an age to die but at an age to “start understanding the beauty of life”.

“As a parent I feel for the boy’s parents. First the guilt of not being there to protect our child when he or she was assaulted and tortured. Now not being able to save him so that he will grow up to see life,” he said.

Vell Paari hoped that the person who killed him would be made to face the “harshest sentence”.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok questioned how a school was able to hire an ex-convict to be an assistant warden at the school.

“How come other teachers and adults did not intervene when the students were tortured?” she said, adding that she was saddened that the young boy had passed away.
