Opposition coalition says FT Ministry and DBKL have deliberately not gazetted 2020 KL City Plan, leading to uncontrolled developments in the city.
KUALA LUMPUR: Uncontrolled developments have reached a level that is “unbearable” for Kuala Lumpur citizens.
This was stated in the Federal Territories (FT) Pakatan Harapan resolutions revealed at its convention here today.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok presented the resolutions at the convention held at Hotel Maluri, Cheras.
“Corruption, misuse of power and injustices exist at every level of the federal government, including the FT government and DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall).
“DBKL has approved projects without taking into account the 2020 KL City Plan, which was drafted in May 2008.
“The FT minister has deliberately not gazetted the plan till today and has instead attempted to draft a new plan in line with the National Transformation 2050.
“This change in policy will certainly affect the government’s original policy which wanted to see Kuala Lumpur as a world-class city by 2020.”
The resolutions demanded that the 2020 KL City Plan be immediately gazetted and that DBKL only approve projects in line with the plan.
FT Pakatan also urged DBKL to upgrade drains in areas where flash floods occur often.
It also demanded that Umno and high-ranking officials from DBKL resign from Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan so it becomes a “neutral” organisation.
“DBKL has approved several high-density projects to Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, which is managed by Umno leaders and high-ranking officials from DBKL.
“This is a clear conflict of interest,” said Kok.
The resolutions also wanted Putrajaya to scrap its plans to build an incinerator in Kepong.
“We urge the federal government and DBKL to continue ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ efforts to reduce the amount of waste to zero, making it unnecessary for an incinerator.”
In the resolutions, it was also pointed out that DBKL had privatised parking fee collections to a subsidiary of Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, Vista Summerose Sdn Bhd, and it has allowed the company to increase parking rates.
“DBKL must cancel this private concession.”
FT Pakatan is also demanding that DBKL study and stop issuing trader licences to foreigners and for Malaysians to be given priority.
