PETALING JAYA: MCA says it will not tolerate any form of vulgarity from male MPs made in reference to ethnic Chinese family names, says its vice president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun (pic).
Chew was commenting on a ruckus that erupted in Parliament Monday when Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman referred to DAP’s Seputeh MP Teresa Kok as “the only woman with a ‘Kok’ in the Dewan.”
“While we sit on opposite sides of the fence and are aware that Teresa Kok’s comments frequently intend to find fault with MCA, our party nevertheless does not tolerate any form of vulgarity by male MPs – what more by a Deputy Minister against a Malaysian Chinese family name, and more so, with allusions to male genitalia,” said Chew in a statement Monday.
“Political leadership and astuteness is displayed by speaking up for the rakyat, be it in support of or objection against Government administration,” said Chew.
Chew, who is also Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister, said that Tajuddin’s “boorish behaviour” was a “reflection of his warped mental thoughts and imagery”.
“Such behaviour is the last expected from a Deputy Minister,” said Chew.
Chew said that Tajuddin should apologise to all women and Malaysian Chinese for his “demeaning insult”.
“If Tajuddin is a man with an iota of class and education, he will treat Malaysian Chinese with respect, and will not display awful manners to women,” she said.
“But then again, perhaps his outburst is self-acknowledgement that any Malaysian Chinese with the surname of ‘Kok’ is obviously more ‘man’ than him,” said Chew.
