Muhyiddin: 4% swing and BN will lose 45 seats

SABAK BERNAM: Barisan Nasional is not as strong as it appears to be, and it can easily lose 45 seats in the next general election, according to former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Speaking at an anti-1MDB ceramah last night, he said a study had shown the BN loss could come from a shift of votes from a small number of voters to the Opposition.

“My research showed that BN has 67 seats that are shaky.

“In a study conducted by experts I appointed, it was revealed that with just a four per cent shift in votes, 45 of BN’s seats will go to the opposition,” he told a crowd of around 500 at the ceramah, held as part of an anti-1MDB road show organised by PKR.

Muhyiddin, currently the pro-tem president of Umno splinter group Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was urging for unity among the Opposition parties, stressing the necessity to ensure a straight fight during elections to come.

The ceramah centred on 1Malaysia Development Bhd which was re-labelled as “1Malaysia Dalam Bahaya” (1Malaysia In Danger).

Muhyiddin responded to those who had questioned his claim last week that the Prime Minister, Najib Razak, had almost RM1 billion in his personal accounts before receiving a further RM2.6 billion.

In a speech in Ketereh, Kelantan, last week, Muhyiddin said the information had come from Abdul Gani Patail, then Attorney-General.

In response to a challenge by deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who said Muhyiddin should furnish evidence for his claim, Muhyiddin responded by saying: “Don’t have to question me where I got the information from. I told you it came from the former AG. If you want to know more, then ask him.”

Last night’s ceramah was attended by parliamentary opposition leader and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.

This was the first leg of the nationwide road show for voters in rural and semi-urban areas, to explain how the 1MDB issue would affect their lives.
