KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s raid on the home of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today underscored its bias against opposition leaders, said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
Expressing alarm over the action at Lim’s home in George Town today, the PKR deputy president said it also served to highlight the leniency towards senior Barisan Nasional leaders accused of graft.
“Even though the raid was conducted in the presence of Lim and his wife, Betty Chew, and their lawyers, such action raises grave concern over the issue of even-handedness and impartiality in investigations,” Azmin said in a statement.
“It is of utmost importance that the MACC be not only fair and impartial in conducting the investigations but must also be seen to be so.”
The MACC reportedly sent a four-car team to the home of the DAP secretary-general today after he and his wife went to its offices to assist in its investigation them.
Lim and his wife were previously questioned for two days by the MACC over the RM2.8 million-price for the home, which political rivals claimed was below the market value of the home.
They also linked the purchase to the Penang government’s sale of land in Taman Manggis, which is also under investigation by the MACC.
