KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — In the run-up to the June 18 Sungai Besar by-election, former “Red Shirt” allies have turned into bitter rivals with each accusing the other of attempted bodily and social harm.
Datuk Jamal Md Yunos has alleged that Mohd Ali Baharom of tarnishing his reputation after the former soldier publicly claimed the Sungai Besar Umno chief had tried to kill him with a gun and filed a police report.
In a counter report filed at the Sekinchan police station, Jamal accused Mohd Ali — better known as Ali Tinju — of trying to “ruin my reputation and bring harm to me and my family”, The Star reported today.
Mohd Ali lodged a police report on Thursday claiming that Jamal had threatened to assault and shoot him during a phone conversation after he criticised the Umno division chief of being unfit to contest in the Sungai Besar by-election.
Sungai Besar MP Datuk Noriah Kasnon died during a helicopter crash during the Sarawak state elections last week and a by-election is set to take place on June 18.
Mohd Ali, who is Malay Armed Forces Veterans association president, had previously organised the Malay-rights “Red Shirt” rally last September 16 alongside Jamal.
The duo have since fallen out after Jamal threatened to have another “Red Shirt” rally in Petaling Street against ethnic Chinese traders.
