KUCHING, May 1 — Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has been urged to study the Malaysia Agreement 1963 before questioning the Sarawak government’s immigration autonomy to bar individuals from entering the state.
Santubong MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said it was the state government’s right to look after and safeguard Sarawak’s interest from elements that could undermine peace and harmony.
“He (Azmin) should study the history and learn about the contents of the 1963 agreement.
“What we don’t desire is the action by parties to disrupt our harmony just to sell their politics here,” he told reporters after laying the foundation stone for Surau Al Amin at Kg Stunggang Melayu Baru, Lundu here today.
Wan Junaidi, who is also Human Resources and Environment Minister said this when asked to comment on Azmin’s statement questioning the power of Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem in barring certain individuals from entering Sarawak
He said the decision of the state government to restrict certain individuals from entering Sarawak was not based on personal interest but on the aspirations and wish of the people in the state.
Wan Junaidi said the state government does not practise biasness.
“It does not bar leaders and members of opposition parties only, it will do the same to Barisan Nasional leaders and members when necessary.
“Our style of politicking here is different from the peninsula; we conduct our campaign peacefully without resorting to disturbance,” he said. — Bernama
