KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 ― PAS is ready to operate on its own if it is excluded from the new opposition coalition dubbed by some as “Pakatan 2.0”, party deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has said.

The PAS leader was quoted by Sinar Harian today as saying that the Islamist party has experience being alienated in the past and and has worked on its own without the help of other opposition parties.

“PAS does not care seeing as the PAS now has more than one million members and PAS is considered as dominant among the opposition parties in this country,” Tuan Ibrahim had reportedly said.

“PAS is also fortifying the party through tours in (all) states plus gatherings at night,” he added.

But Tuan Ibrahim said, however, that any attempt to form a federal opposition coalition without PAS will fail as the Islamist party is the main opposition party in Malaysia.

“Any coalition without PAS will leave the said coalition unstable and not strong,” he claimed.

Pakatan Rakyat (PR) was declared dead by the DAP shortly after PAS decided during its June 6 muktamar to cut ties with its ally over a number of key ideological differences like its plan to introduce hudud in Kelantan.

After the declaration, the Penang government announced that it no longer considers itself to be a PR government.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state leadership, with the consensus of all 30 DAP, PKR and PAS assemblymen, has decided that its administration should be referred to as just the “Penang state government” while the state will continue to be governed according to the now-defunct pact’s 2009 Common Policy Framework.
