DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang has predicted that Perlis and Negri Sembilan are within Pakatan Rakyat’s reach in the 13th general election, thus increasing the number of Pakatan state governments from five in 2008 to seven in 2013.
During an exclusive interview with Sin Chew Daily, the Ipoh Timor MP expressed confidence that the coalition can retain its power in Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Kelantan, and recapture Perak.
With Perlis and Negri Sembilan in its bag, he claimed Pakatan’s hope to take Putrajaya will be very feasible.
However, Lim conceded that the PAS-led Kedah government is in a shaky situation.
Even so, Lim said the ‘political tsunami’ in the 2008 general election has yet to reach its peak.
“In the last general polls, the anti-establishment wind started from the north and stopped at Negri Sembilan. It was a contained political tsunami, not full tsunami. It has yet to reach its peak.
“The tsunami would only subside when it reaches the peak. I believe there will be bigger political tsunami in the coming general election that will hit the whole nation,” he was quoted as saying.
He said that a power shift is possible in Perlis as the determination to change is strongly felt by Pakatan in the state.
Pakatan won 15 state seats in Negri Sembilan during the 2008 general polls, short of four seats to take over the state government.
On Johor, which is a Pakatan’s front-line state, Lim said should Pakatan win one-third of the parliamentary and state constituencies there, Umno and MCA would be uprooted.
“Johor is not only the birthplace of Umno but also the stronghold of Umno and MCA. If Johor is defeated by Pakatan, Umno and MCA will not be able to revive their strength.”
His decision to contest the Gelang Patah parliamentary constituency in Johor, said Lim, is like setting fire in Umno’s backyard as the ruling party is focusing its attention in Selangor.
He did not rule out the possibility that PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim will move from Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat to contest in Perak.
One thing that I noticed is that Sinchew seems to be writing articles that are favourable to the PR now, in particular, the DAP!!!
Quite a change indeed!
As for winning Putrajaya, it’s now a distinct possibility!!!
What with the Malaysian electorate being so ferocious about dumping UMNO/BN!
Even the oldies in that party are pleading for the electorate not to abandon them!
But when they are scamming and scandalising the country, did they ever think about that!
