KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of the Victory Old Folks Home in Old Klang Road were overjoyed, yesterday, when they received five sets of therapy blankets and other gifts from Korean healthcare products company Choyang Medical Instrument. The total donated by the medical instruments company amounted to RM50,000.
The company claims the blankets are pest-free and has ‘treatment qualities’ for the elderly.
The blanket sets, said Choyang Malaysia director Lin Chang Song, cost RM4,600 each, and includes a therapeutic bed sheet.
Other donations included healthy food items and also RM18,000 cash to the seven-year-old home which houses 27 people.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, who hosted the handover, said Choyang is well-known for providing the elderly with free therapy services.
“Their main products include therapy chairs that help the elderly, especially those with arthritis. They provide this treatment for free. If users like the treatment, they can buy them,” she said.
However, cautious that the home’s inmates would not be able to operate the chairs if donated, the company decided to provide blankets and more cash assistance, she added.
The company currently has 23 branches in Malaysia, 10 of them in the Klang Valley.
The home, located in Jalan Pisang, was established in 2005 by Victory House, a 24-year-old community service centre which also has drug rehabilitation and youth centres, among others.
The eldest of its 27 residents is a 93-year-old man, said home manager Loi Bih Shyong.
“The biggest challenge is looking after the residents’ health. We hope more help will come,” he said.
