Hopefully Ng Yen Yen opens her mind to open tender :-)

Posted on Thursday, 03-11-2011 by Teresa Media

An advertising agency professional sent me the following, in response to Ng Yen Yen’s statement against me re open tender for direct booking for advertising.

you can always go check out our industry practice by calling (dont use your name of course) any media house/specialist in town.

to name a few: Carat media, universal McCann, Mindshare, Vizeum, Starcom Mediavest, Zenith Media, OMD

above are all the sizable media specialist which i believe they could offer a COMPLETE media plan and strategy on how Tourism Msia can save every penny in their pocket.

and as mentioned, going direct is rare(especially for humongous client(translated: big spender)in our industry.

and in my knowledge, STAR(which is one of the main media for print) will not and cannot offer any rebate even client prefer to deal direct with them.

meaning, if tourism can cut a deal with STAR for a super good package, say RM100 for an ad(and let just say normal rate is RM150)
what tourism board can save is RM50 and period. but on the other hand, media agency can offer tourism board some rebate based on whatever rate they managed to bargain.

for instant:

media specialist is making the booking on behalf the rate is RM110 given by STAR.

tourism can ask for rebate from media specialist up to 15%(it will all depends on terms of payment)

if tourism willing to settle their payment within 30 days, chances are, they can enjoy rebate up to 13 or 14%(which is norm , especially 13%)

more importantly, client NEED to engage media house’s service NOT bcos they mark-up and charge commission, but instead, they plan and advice and strategize with client on best media selection=best results
(the client is always in a win-win situation, cos all commission was deal between publishers and media house)

you can do the math for the rest…cos chinese media buy is even more pasar malam:)

Background:

Open tender for direct booking for advertising? Ridiculous, says Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen. Censuring Selangor exco member Teresa Kok for commenting on the issue vis-a-vis the ministry, Ng told her to “do your homework first before you open your mouth!” This was her response to the Seputeh member of parliament who had previously suggested that open tenders could minimise the cost of advertising for the tourism ministry. “Teresa Kok does not understand the term, ‘direct booking’. She better (should) go and do (her) homework (on) what is direct booking. “In direct booking, the advertisers are firmly set. They don’t negotiate on prices.“So, my advice to Teresa Kok is, do your homework (first) before you open your mouth,” she told reporters after launching the Accor’s Destination Malaysia Website in Putrajaya today. Earlier, Kok had claimed that the ministry mismanaged the government process and public funds by choosing to engage in direct bookings, instead of using the open tender processes, in relation to its paid advertisement contacts. She was referring to the recent Auditor-General’s Report for 2010 which stated that 72 percent of the advertisement contracts secured by the ministry were via direct negotiations with various providers, rather than through a process of open tenders. Commenting further, Ng said it was typical of Kok to try to find issues when there were none.“But this time, she has shown her lack of knowledge and ignorance (on the issue),” she added. – Bernama

Surely by now you should know she doesn’t have any say in the matter at all even though it is her ministry and she appears to have the final say.
She is there, just like all the MCA lackeys in the cabinet, just for show that a Chinese is running a ministry, but the truth is she has to take instructions from her bosses from deceitful and corrupted Umnoputras.
Likewise the ministers of transport and health too are there to show the Chinese community that the Chinese have a say in running the country also in charge of a few portfolios but the fact is the ministries are run daily by Umno appointed DGs and for sure not by the minister.
The only way to stop these charades and deceits is to vote Umno led
government out of Putrajaya once and for all times in the coming GE.
Surely 53 years is more than enough time for the deceitful Umno morons to proof their sincerely.
Enough of lip services and above all to enrich themselves !
