Press statement by Teresa Kok, Selangor State Senior EXCO and ADUN for Kinrara at Puchong dated 8 January 2011
Satim Diman, ADUN Sri Serdang
UMNO Selangor’s choice of Satim Diman as Selangor Opposition Leader proves that UMNO Selangor is truly devoid of capable leaders
The appointment of Satim Diman ADUN Sri Serdang as the Selangor Opposition Leader, to replace Khir Toyo who is now battling graft charges, proves that UMNO Selangor is truly devoid of capable leaders.
Firstly, Satim’s record of attendance and performance as a state assemblyman in the Dewan Negeri Selangor sitting is appalling. He has never been an active participant in the DUN debate, revealing his apathy towards the affairs of the state government and his failure to represent the interests of his Sri Serdang constituents.
Secondly, Satim has by and large failed to serve the people of his constituency, Sri Serdang. My constituency Kinrara is located beside Sri Serdang. I have received numerous complaints from his constituents that Satim is not visible on the ground and has been neglecting them. Thus, whenever they faced any issues and concerns, they would approach me or the MP for Puchong Gobind Singh for assistance.
Thirdly, during one of the 2008 Selangor state assembly sittings, Satim made a statement falsely accusing me of forbidding the azan call to prayer by Masjid Al-Ehsan, Puchong. His statement was completely baseless and made with malicious intent. His lies led to my incarceration under the Internal Security Act before I was finally released thanks to strong and vocal public uproar, including public support from the chairman of the mosque committee itself.
In conclusion, though the Opposition Leader position is conventionally regarded as the alternate Menteri Besar, in my view, Satim Diman is definitely no equal to Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim. Satim is even more incompetent than his predecessor Khir Toyo, and matches Khir only in their common lack of integrity. By appointing Satim as Opposition Leader, UMNO Selangor sends a strong message to the people of Selangor that UMNO Selangor is truly bankrupt of capable leaders.

Umno’s leaderships want puppet and not leader;
They want yes man not capable man;
They want Trojan horse not black stallion;
They want minions & lackeys and not independent minded master;
They want Zombie and not active being;
They want brain-death individual and not great visionary;
This guy probably meets all these mediocre criteria with flying color;
else……. he would not have been chosen.
Not only in Selangor but the country as well. The blame should go to the past PM’s. They did not groom the right candidates but instead choose all the YES fools.
Before criticized integrity of new opposition leader, please review responsible mb on suk appointment recently. Ignorant and took leave even being notified new candidate of suk since 21st dec (based on his private secretary) and then give false statement after discussion with sultan on 3rd jan. Amendment state constitution is something too late to recover.I wander state office politic, and relationship between exco and directors of each department to “encircle” new suk. But hard time on state administration was expected.
After crisis of pkr election, (which strongly influence vote trend of Indian) and reaction of conservative Malays on this incident, PR is shaky to defend some seats, where form backbone of current government. Until now most common people still hard to judge pr achievement.
That is nothing to lose for pr to implement “instant impact” populist policy in last 12 months (while still in power), something “too good to believe”. More Chinese primary school reserved land, cut residential cukai pintu, cukai tanah incentive for industry, free local football game ticket, more affordable flat, huge religious ceremony, famous artist as selangor mascot and so on. It may burden state fund for near term, but create higher platform for bn to regain power.
Hardcore pr supporters are countable compare to number of neutral voters. They are not hesitate to give bn another try. So, listen to their voice first!
