“I wanna grab Samy’s…” Well, not really. 🙂
Dear friends,
I was very, very busy, Christmas or no Christmas, and lots of things were happening over the past two weeks. I apologise for not blogging as often as I would like.
These photos were taken during the Dec 17 anti-toll hike demonstration at Mahkota Cheras.
The residents there have been coming out to protest many times. They are very angry the government closed a road and forced them to take another route that requires toll payment to Grand Saga. They are more furious now as Grand Saga has been allowed to raise its rate from RM0.70 to RM1 at the 9th mile toll plaza, and RM0.60 to RM0.90 at the 11th mile toll plaza.
(Note for those who are not familiar with the area: Communters who drive from Kajang to Cheras/KL have to pay toll even for using the existing road. The government has awarded the road expansion project to the toll company, Grand Saga, and allowed them to set up two toll plazas).
I was very impressed with the number of locals who turned up for the event whic lasted about 90 minutes.
All DAP leaders who were present managed to deliver their speeches before the police stepped in.
At the end, at the requests from the residents who refused to disperse, a tractor was used to symbolically punch a hole into a cement divider.
We had great fun trying to push away the concrete blockade. Guess who won? 🙂
There will be another demo at the same venue 10:00hr, Sunday, Dec 31. Please join us.
