Meeting representative of Resident Associations of Puchong
Some of the residents of Puchong are quite pro-active people. This is the impression that I got ever since I stepped into Puchong.
Two ‘activists’ in Puchong took the initiative to organise a ‘meeting the people session’ for me. One was organised by Mahmud Baba with the Bukit Kuchai residents on 19th April (Saturday) and second one was organised by Chik Chum, chairman of Gabungan Persatuan Puchong Selangor with representatives of Resident Associations on 20th April (Sunday).
In the meeting with Gabungan Persatuan Puchong Selangor, residents raised various issues, including the reform of of Jawatankuasa Penduduk (JKP) where they prefer not to have politicians to head the JKP, they also mentioned to me about the issue of MPSJ enforcement unit stop them from having their own guarded/gated community, premises of BN component parties on green field should be demolished or open to community, missing road links, flood etc.
I also explained to the people that I don’t have power to do resolve all the problems in Puchong, as some issues are in the jurisdiction of federal government, toll issue is one of the best examples.
One resident raised the title issue in some houses/shops at Puchong Indah, I told that person that the state government has no power over abandoned project or dispute between developer and housebuyers, what we can do is we as wakil rakyat to mediate the conflicts between them. When I said this, a participant rebutted me by saying that, “Don’t always say you don’t have power, the reason we voted you is to want you to work for us.”
I was quite mad when I heard that, I retorted him by saying that I did not want to give empty promises or lying to them by claiming I have power to do this and that. I said, I have to be frank to people in Puchong that I don’t have power to abolish toll plaza in all the highways in Puchong. Deep down in my heart, I was thinking, how can educated people like this be so unreasonable?
Dialogue with residents of Bukit Kuchai, Puchong on 19th April 2008
I had a good meeting with Bukit Kuchai residents, I told them about policies of new Selangor state policies, the rationale of implementing the centralised pig farm project etc. You know what happened after that? The Malay man Mahmud Baba who organised the public meeting was beaten up by people few days after that. That’s sad!!

Tolong sampaikan pesan berikut kepada Karpal Singh,
atau tolong postkan ke blog beliau.
Saya cuba login blog beliau, tapi agak sukar.
Komen saya :
Salam Sejahtera Tuan.

Some advice;
1) Edit this, “Deep down in my heart, I was thinking, how can educated people like this be so unreasonable?”
That statement comes across as very, very rude.
It is up to you to feel whatever you want. It is reasonable of you to reason them against their unreason. But you are being unreasonable by putting the label “unreasonable” on them. They are like that after years of inaction and ignorance of their BN MPs and government. What you should do is to humble yourself and be big enough to realise that there are still a lot of faults in the system and work positively towards finding a solution.
You should learn from Eli Wong’s handling of many environment issues with the local residents. Her humility and readiness to listen and help really endear herself to the non-converted.
2) “The Malay man Mahmud Baba”
That’s so un-DAP! I should ask Lim Kit Siang or DAP Central Committee to redress you for still defining a man by their race whatsoever. We are Malaysian, for heaven sake! You won’t be happy if i call you, “that Chinese MP”, don’t you? At least Kayveas was sensitive enough to put it as ‘a Malaysian of Malay parentage’ – orang malaysia keturunan melayu.
3) You seriously need some PR consultant to revamp your unpolished social skills. I believe you are sincere at heart, but if your attitude and sensitivity is zero, you will just be like another BN MP.
Compared to what UMNO Youth, KJ, Utusan Malaysia, “The Malay man Mahmud Baba who organised the public meeting was beaten up by people few days after that. That’s sad!!”does not sound so bad at all.
I think the key point is missed out, i.e. some people are sore losers and take it out on people who exercise their civil rights and who also take the time and trouble to organise an event that would make life better.
Agree that YB Kok might sound unpolished but to say,” your attitude and sensitivity is zero, you will just be like another BN MP.”, I can say, Nazri, Bung, Hisam, Najib have more than surpassed YB Kok.
I do feel some sympathy for YB. Those who think state government can turn stone into gold obviously do not know how the system work.
We have laws in Malaysia and elected representatives have to work within the framework of the law. (On whether BN side do follow that is a separate matter for discussion. Reference case: the presecution of ANwar and the Mongolian trial)
“Tuan dan rakan-rakan tidak sepatutnya menimbulkan apa-apa isu dan dasar yang berbeza kerana saya dan rakan-rakan yang mengundi tuan dan rakan-rakan tuan adalah untuk menjaga kebajikan dan keadilan kami semua.”
– this is a bit confusing. We need to think out of the box, creative solutions and radical changes to improve the standard of living and welfare in Malaysia.
– if “isu-isu dan dasar yang berbeza” is not desired, then why bother to vote for change. We do not want a new bottle for old wine, we want new bottle and new wine. Ok, change the wine to carbonate drink, it’s non-alcoholic. I am speaking figuretively.
No, YB Teresa, there’s no need to edit anything. But if you want to, append a little note to say you meant no malice to anyone.
I’m an educated person, not living in Puchong but if I were in Puchong I wouldn’t feel offended with you making that general statement of how unreasonable we may be. I understand the context of how it was uttered and written. So, I won’t feel kecil hati. C’mon lah, if everytime you say something that reflects your inner most thoughts and gets censured, then what’s the point of blogging? You had already backed down with the photo of the 5 piggys the last time. There’s no need to back down on this one, I assure you.
As for refering to ‘the Malay man Mahmud Baba’, again I can see how that came about. You were writing exactly how you speak, if that’s indeed how you speak normally. I know that for a fact, because I too would say the same when speaking out loud. But all this is without malice and bad intention. So, again, no harm done.
By the way, how is Mahmud Baba? Is he okay?
SAya sokong penuh En Lee dan kikddokit..
The malay reference here does not sound rascist but to emphasise a point.
Probably because the UMNO people beat up Mahmud just for coorporating with Umno’s opposition. Just look at what they did to the Gerakan guy appointed by LGE.
BN umno policy is not to share anything with opposition.
This includes their ketuanan, corrupted wealth and even intelligence of their member. Meaning the skills of their so called member can only be used for UMNO, not for the country..
Understandable cos they want to rule forever, so they make use of everything. If I have any skill, UMNO wants me to use it so that only UMNO gets the name and vote, so if i offer my skill to other party they get mad or jealous. Is this kinda attitude show any loyalty to the country? come August and they wanna u to display the national flag. Patriotisma konon.
And thats why they beat this Baba fella.
Yes, whats the update on Baba and did anybody get arrested? we like to know
hmm.. malay man Mahmud Baba ? this is a total translation of chinese way on adressing ppl. malai chai.. malai chai.. malai chai.. i’ve herad alot of thiz and get used to it.. but i’m ipohite.. and we also in our informal malay adressing ‘ budak cina.. nyonya.. apek tua.. etc ”
but how about ppl from place where the chinese is not everywhere and working with chinese is a rare things to do? i think the situation covered 80% of malaysia.
so i would like to advice to YB, yes, u are representing a chinese majority constituency and representing an almost all-chinese party… but that was at least before march 8… the situation now is different…. LKS said that ppl are now voting across racial border… but sad enough.. are they embrace changes just to vote for a person that never willing to change?
today.. everything is changing… but.. something are too hard to change… so.. if one’s promoting a rhapsody of multiracial and condemned a chauvinistic organization are actually fake its own policy, with the power given will they eager to lead the example?? i need YB to prove this wrong!
anyway.. poor malai sok.. mahmud baba.. not because he was beaten.. but because the person that made him bear the unduly consequence are just wrote on her blog “The Malay man Mahmud Baba who organised the public meeting was beaten up by people few days after that. That’s sad!!”… what action that follows is what we loooove to know..
and one more thing.. whenever it come to issue that you might think will disturb 馬來人 , you will publish it in a complete 中文 without any translation.. i think it is no different with unwise act as per claimed, erecting road signs in KL with JAWI scripts attached…
oh.. sorry miss sassy.. i’m too emotional.. but lets think about it in reasonable educated people way of thinking..
selamat bekerja..
People, no matter how educated or how rich can become unreasonable if they cannot get what their way. That’s human nature!
You’re right in letting them know the limits of your office. However, put your view across in a plain statement. If you can offer any mediation, say so in as many words. Do so in an amiable manner.
Don’t get angry but also don’t be brow beaten by such people. They may be frustrated by years (or decades?) of inaction by the previous incumbent and are taking it out on you.
In the meantime, do whatever you can to bring matters that only the Federal government can solve to Parilament and make out a good case for changing the legislation that is causing the problem.
A good idea will be regular brain-storming sessions with your counterparts in the PR. Such sessions will bring about better problem solving abilities within the coalition.
YB TERESA CAN YOU EXPLAIN ABOUT THIS. IF TRUE WHY? THIS IDEA I THINK IS VERY STUPID U KNOW. HOPE U NOT Terlalu perkauman ma. Where is your promise to RAKYAT? I GOT THIS FROM BLOGGER
Yes, agreed u can’t solve all the problems in Puchong especially the toll charges but u could of course get the state government to build a road linking puchong to sunway or subang jaya or any alternative roads to bypass the toll plaza.
Just got back from a seminar where Teresa and Tian Chua were in their element. thanks YB for coming over as I saw you yawned while TC spoke. Must have been a long day.
we are now at a point where people are overly politically correct. You can’t even say “Malay man” without offending some oversensitive people. So what, called me a chinese boy and that is a fact.
anyway, let me repeat what I said
1) there is a limit to what a state government can do
2) people need time to learn their new job (we usually give ourselves 6 months to settle in a new job so it’s barely 2 months and we start rattling tables, sigh)
Would like to add
1) the respective state governments can easily be thwarted by federal government. – roads and highway are under the federal government, so does tax incentives, manufacturing licences, expatriates’ work permit, capital control, etc.
2) we must not overburden MPs with longkang issue. we should organise resident’s movement, collect documented evidence, liaise with the municipal directly and force the issue. when there is a stalemate, e.g. letters & photos submitted but without reply, only then get the MPs involved. The long term solution, of course, is local council election.
Regarding the statement by one of the residents : “Don’t always say you don’t have power, the reason we voted you is to want you to work for us.”
I was one of the residents who attended that dialogue session and I can vouch that it was true that the resident made the statement.
Another resident requested that the new state government amend the gated/guarded community by-law and said something like this : “I voted for DAP, that’s why you should change the Selangor by-law”.
I appeal to Puchong residents to give some time and chance for the new state government to undo the systemic failure for the past 50 years commited by BN. Afterall, it was that most residents who voted for BN the last few GE for Kinrara and Sri Serdang DUNs and Parliament.
Puchong residents must not forget that there are some issues do not fall within the jurisdiction of State government. For example, to demand the state government to abolish toll is i would say residents being ignorant. This is because toll is under the power of Federal government.
Regarding abandoned housing project, it is true that the land fall in Selangor but the crooked developers licenses are under the ambit of Federal Government via Ministry of Local Housing & Development. Until today, why is the Federal Government not hauling up the directors of such crooked developers into court?
Last but not least, I want to ask those residents who demanded this and that from the State government, please ask these questions yourselves and use your head to think first before making unreasonable demands:
1) to the 2 residents who said they voted for DAP and demand that Teresa quickly look into their demand. You have to be realistic and give Teresa some time and chance. Ask yourself how long does it take to undo the damage done for the past 50 years? Can one solve these problems overnight, 1 week, etc?
2) You demand this and that but have you asked yourselves first whether the issue you raise is under Federal government or state government? What I am merely asking is please be considerate with your demand. Please do some self-study first on what can the state government do and what cannot do.
I was there. And I was 100% sure that Teresa was not rude during the dialogue session. The person who said “I voted for DAP and that’s why you must change the by-law” walked out of the dialogue after saying that statement.
“Would like to add

Agreed.
The BN will try all its tricks and more to upset the apple-cart for the PR – that’s for sure! Just look at the pig farm in Selangor. They were the ones to opt for the project but when the PR won the state, they put up all sorts of obstacles and even stir up the Malays to oppose this very same project that they themselves started!
So, what shred of credibility the BN has? The final and best solution is to boot out the BN. Nothing short of this will do!
Sassy MP should not make things too hard for herself and relax at every opportunity.
Delegate, delegate & delegate!
But do keep an eye on things.
Let’s not lose focus on some pertinent points here. (1) The rakyat now can initiate meetings of this nature, knowing there is some hope, (2) These meetings are no longer explosive and/or hostile.
At least Teresa is honest in saying that there are still many things beyond their control, especially where GLCs, cartels and other monopolies where BN has its grip on. We, of course, can do our bit as consumers, customers or stakeholders to make these corporations “work for it”.
Let’s work with our MPs, not place more stress on them !! Also, let’s also not get too emotional about semantics, syntax and words written in haste. Focus on the issue and how we can help to resolve it. (of course I am also suggesting Teresa should also learn from this experience and watch her words used, as she is now living in a glasshouse where everything can be seen and heard).
Ai yo yo GUYS, remember the dear YB is still human NOT superwoman. Nobody is perfect.
Having said that, I do agree, in her public office, YB should be a bit more careful with what she says and how she says it.
Infact, if you go to or call any of the service centers of DAP / PKR etc, you will come across very unprofessional first contact and responses in many cases.
Why is that so? Mostly these volunteers have a sincere heart to help but lack the “social” exposure to learn these soft and more professional touches in “customer services”
And if only one can see the number and the types of complaints they get, plus the types of people that go there, even a SAINT would probably swear!
What can we do? If there are any professional trainers etc etc out there, do voluntere your help. It would also be most helpful for anyone with negative comments to make, to also include some suggestions to improve.
If you do not have anything to say that can motivate these selfless people who have commited their time for public services and encourage them, than please do not discourage them with negative comments!
God Bless the People of Puchong!
second this, good points!
easier to criticise/bitch than to do the work
bless the volunteers. they are under stress coz they only hear negative things
no big issue here…i think she’s just highlighting that even a Malay like Mahmud Baba is championly being open to organize a meeting and discuss about the pig farm issue. we all know how sensitive a pig issue can be to the malays. but i do know malaysia is a multiracial country…harmony comes first!
Hi Teresa,
I was staying in Old Klang Road about 10 years ago and now staying in Puchong Jaya. Still remembered the promisses made by you before the election, votes was placed on the trust gained on your capability, commitment and contribution to the communities (in Old Klang Road). As a new MP and DUN (Puchong Kinrara), I supposed you are very busy on the daily task that needs to be completed. However, please take note that we have not seen any progress of life upgrades in Puchong Jaya. I don’t mind things come a bit later, but at least there should be something in the pipeline that express through the people in Puchong Jaya.
During the election, Ex-DUN from BN promissed the inter-connecting road from Pusat Bandar Puchong to Bandar Puchong Jaya (contribution by state government) to ease those people to pick up the sons and daughters in Hartcroft Primary School. Please look into this issue. In addition, please do updates the progress of upgrading life and progress on planning (could be in Malaysia Kini) as you may know, public medias are controlled in Malaysia. If you have some bright ideas that is in progress, please let us know. Thanks from Terry in Puchong Jaya.
Taking it all into context, this being a blog and not a statement to the media, I think people are making mountains out of anthills. I can see why the concern with Teresa’s detractors looking out for a chink in her armor and will not hesitate to use any weaknesses.
Kudos to this Mahmud guy who has more foresight than any UMNO politician out there and of course, keep up the good work, Theresa. I remember once, my driving instructor singing praises about you saying that you work hard and all. My prays go out to you and keep on fighting the good work.

Hai to all the peace loving M’sians and supporters of the new PR,
Please forgive my ignorance, am living in Puchong yet only realise that there were two residents meeting with YB and her team – which were held only days ago – when i log in today. I only registered myself in this blog ten days ago. Isn’t the date and time of the meeting posted somewhere where we will know in advance and interested individuals who would like to attend will make themselves available to attend? If this is done then can some kind soul please enlighten me on where it is to be found. Thanks in advance.
Bravo to lee wee tak, damocles, rcchia, petluc and matrixboy 1. Am quite positive , in all peaceloving M’sians heart, we would like to say a big thank you, for taking the time and trouble to help ease and explain the complex situation we are in now to those who ‘let it off’ in this blog.
For most of us, we have been hoodwinked and blinded for more than two generations. Yes, there is no doubt that M’sia is now seen and known as compared to yesteryears when the foreigners know where S’pore and Thailand is but not M’sia, but we should have been better, if not for most of the wrongdoings that were done by the BN. Well, can’t blame them cos for 11 PRU’s there were not enough voices in parliament to bark back at them but not this time.
Hope the new PR, with the mandate that the rakyat has given, will rise to the occasion and deliver what was promise before we went to polls on March 8.
We want transparency, fairness and equility to all, MALAYSIANS, irrespective of skin color or religion.
May the FORCE be with the new MALAYSIA!!!
Just a quick reply to Terry Chan and to all, I am always conscious and cautious with my words, I avoid making empty promises. In most of my
elections speeches, I always spoke on national issues and the need to have more opposition members in Parliament and in the states, I hardly made promises on local issues.
However, in the case of Puchong, I did mention about tolled roads, the grave yard in Saujana Puchong, hill slope development at Taman Wawasan, unfair demolition of houses or securing land titles for Kg Bersatu. I have lamented over the lack of check and balances in Puchong. On the above issues, I am handling all these complaints, except tolled roads, as they are not under the jurisdiction of the
state government
In view of I am unable to know what have been promised by previous ADUN and MP in the past, you may call or email to my Puchong office if you have any issues. My office number is: 03-8070 3807,email: [email protected]
HI,
The people who are STILL harping on race issues here are purely HARPING.
Harp and harp. and Hoping… a wedge..they hope to make.
ACTUALLY, most people are color blind now..maybe a bit of dissatisfaction, but still, its about reason and fairness stuff.
A DAY ago, I saw a (race cannot mentioned)lady with the white rod at a roadside near Masjid Jamek LRT station, hoiping to cross the busy street..she was a blind person. GUESS who helped her to cross the road? (hehe not me, i was driving and many cars were behind my back lah)…An old indian man ! who himslef looks tired himself..hold her white rod and lead her across the street.! IT was a pleasing sight of humanity…
Steven
Just wanna say that the residents of puchong have high expectations of you, me included, Theresa. You may be receiving loads of complaints and feedback by now. Have competent staff man your service centres and take the trouble to acknowledge complaints/feedback sent via e-mails.
People always like to say we are only human, hence, it is acceptable if we are like this or like that. But when you are a high profile YB like yourself, a PR ADUN and MP plus a senior exco member in the state government, you have to be ‘superhuman’. Everything you say or do, no matter how good the real intentions are, can be used to discredit you WHEN your words or actions are ‘not proper’ and deem to be ‘arrogant’.
Don’t pass judgement so early, have empathy, Puchong residents have suffered for so long and it is not abnormal for us to expect some light at the end of the tunnel in you/DAP/PR now that you are part of the state government.
So what if the problems faced by the people falls under the Federal gov., show us you will take it up in Parliament or write to the relevant Ministry concern to take up our case. Don’t surrender so early and so fast, thats so unlike you, YB!
Bottomline, be humble/proactive/remember to serve with kindness and empathy, you will succeed for we are with you all the way.
Teresa,
I would like to make some enquiries as follows:-
1. Motorala and PKNS had an agreement to invest in Selangor. The cost more than RM100 million but had been
suspended. Tell us what is the reason.
2. Is it sweet patato changing rice?
3. The expenditure by PKNS how much had been used?
4. Is it due to changing state government?
5. Did new state government approach them?
6. Did SSIC (Selangor State Investmen Committee) involved?
As a foreign investment Exco, the transparency and accountable state government, kindly tell us the reason.
This is the omniscience of the people.
