MICHAEL CHONG VS THERESA KOK: Kok urges Chong to help the cops
SEPUTEH MP Teresa Kok has urged MCA Public Services and Complaint Department head Datuk Michael Chong to voluntarily hand over his ‘little black book’ of names and information of Ah Longs to the police.
“I believe Chong is the best person to help the police as his department receives many cases which give him access to information on the Ah Longs and their victims, said Kok.
She said the Ah Longs have threatened and acted violently against borrowers and the police should curb the activities.
Last Friday, The Malay Mail published statements by Chong and Kok on the escalating issue on Ah Longs.
Kok had expressed her views that all cases of Ah Longs should be reported to the authorities.
On the other hand, Chong commented that most borrowers only wanted his help in negotiating to reduce the interest rates and did not want to make a report.
However, Chong said he would refer cases where the borrowers had been threatened or harassed, to the police.
On Dec 9, a Chinese daily reported that CID director Datuk Christopher Wan said police had received a list of registered money lending companies from the MCA.
Wan also said the police will investigate whether these companies are involved in illegal activities.
Kok said: “The case of Seah Wong Chong and his wife, Kau Mei Lin, who killed their three children and attempted suicide to escape further torment from Ah Longs should be a wake-up call for police, political parties and the public.
“Society must push the police and the government to enforce the Moneylenders Act 1951 in order to clamp down on illegal money lending activities.”
Yeah, I’m puzzle by the fact that the Police is unable to take action against illegal moneylender (Ah Long). There is only one ANSWER ….. that these Ah Longs are headed by some high profile individuals (probably some high ranking officers or some of our MPs themselves). So, its NOT surprising how so many of the Politicians are MILLIONAIRES! How else can you explain a Politician can own a house worth a couple of hundred thousands or up to 2 millions! You sure they are successfull millionaires business man (say, like Thaksin?) before joining politics to fulfill their so called Social obligation? Em… thats something to ponder upon …..
Hi Supersagi, let’s not Forget the Klang guy, the “Cha Ka Lio” builds himself a palace. except that he doesn’t have to resort to illegal money lending as he has gomen contracts, unlike his counterparts in MCA and MIC.
