I have issued a press statement in Chinese in reply to a recent statement made by MCA Publicity Chief Datuk Fu Ah Kiow. He accused DAP as a party that was anti-Chinese because we only contest in Chinese majority areas.
His statement, obviously, was to divert public attention to cover up its failure and its poor performance.
As multi-racial party, the DAP is not only to contest against MCA, but we also take on other candidates from BN component parties, such as MIC, Gerakan, various multi-racial parties in Sabah and Sarawak such as SUPP, SAPP, PBS etc.
We have contested in a number of mixed constituencies in the previous elections, such as Cameron Highlands Parliamentary seat (Malay 36%,Chinese 33%,Indian 15 %,others16%)、Klang Parliamentary seat (Malay 33%,Chinese 47%,Indian 19 %)、Puchong Parliamentary seat(Malay46%,Chinese37%,Indian16 %)、Raub Parliamentary seat(Malay 47%,Chinese44%,Indian 7 %)etc. All these are not Chinese majority areas.
This shows the DAP fights for all other races in the country, because we are a party for all races and for all Malaysians.
MCA leaders are now pushing all the wrongs of the government, such as mismanagement, corruption, poor governance, poor bureaucracy, to UMNO. Has MCA ever spoken up or come out with policies to restore the economic slowdown, inflation and policies that discriminate the non-Bumi in business? Ironically, MCA did not even oppose New Economic Policy.
On the increase of crime rate and corruption in police force, did MCA leaders support the establishment of IPCMC?
When UMNO extremists raised various extremist statements that undermined the race and religion in UMNO Assembly, MCA only made statements that published in Chinese papers, but do they dare to raise their opposition to UMNO?
The index of corruption and university ranking has been dropping, did MCA leaders make any statements on such issues or come out with policy that correct such situation?
As a component party in Barisan Nasional, MCA cannot pass the bucks of failure and deviation in policy implementation to others. If it is so, why can’t MCA be challenged in the general election?
If MCA think that all the wrongs of Barisan Nastional government are caused by UMNO and have nothing to do with MCA, then it should cut its ties with UMNO, and not squat under the sarong of UMNO.
If we want to check and correct the abuse of power and corruption and injustice that practised by BN, the only way is to increase and strengthen the opposition representation in Parliament and state assembly.
The component parties of the BN dare not even squeak when UMNO abuse its power because their ministers and other senior officials depend on UMNO for their positions.
To do otherwise will endanger their positions!
What I find surprising is that the DAP has been very gentlemanly in its criticisms of the BN. Don’t hold back as long as you are factual!
In fact, the BN has supplied the opposition parties with more than adequate materials to mount a very effective campaign against it.
So, just do it!
Sassy MP. The BN has labelled and branded the DAP as anti-Chinese, anti-Malay, anti-Indian and anti-lain-lain. Whether this is true or not is not important but whether the labelling sticks to the mind of the voter, is. People with feeble minds get influenced by this labelling.
I was in Trengganu some years back and spoke to some Malays there. They all say DAP is anti-Malay even though I don’t think the DAP is even in Trengganu or Kelantan in a big way and they have very little direct experience with the DAP. But it is already in their minds that the DAP is anti-Malay. They have been brain-washed.
Also, remember that villains eat steak, gentlemen eat bones!
Go ahead, whack them any which way you can!
In all fairness, the charge by MCA that DAP dare not take on UMNO in malay areas is a valid claim if DAP insist that it represents all Malaysians. Getting the Sabahans on board is the step on the right direction.
Inroads must be made to get Malays to understand DAP’ struggle and objective. Since Ahmad Noh, I cannot remember any Malay leaders in DAP of note. the fund raising dinners which is predominantly a chinese yam seng could also deter them from joining in.
New strategies must be devised. focus on malay intellectuals first and get them on board. perhaps get people like Bakri Musa to exchange ideas and brainstorm. perhaps in another 2-3 GEs’ time, Malay’s preception of DAP may change.
Sheriff is right, Malays’ been brainwashed. I think if DAP can start winning over Malays in KL areas, they in turn can help spread the word when they get back into kampungs.
It is sad that despite Mr Lim Guan Eng getting into jail for helping a Malay nenek, the Malay masses miss it out. Has any UMNO politicians got into jail because of a Chinese? I struggle to recall any…..
With this sort of mentality, DAP is right not to go into Malay dominated areas now but DAP should develop strategies and plan to get into this area. At the current birth rate, migration and immigration trend, Chinese votes will be irrelevant in the next generation.
