My assistant under attack

Posted on Tuesday, 15-01-2008Wednesday, 16-01-2008 by DAP Seputeh

Banners at entrance to DAP Kg Baru Salak South Branch, Taman Sg Besi. Kuala Lumpur.

I have a few volunteer assistants to help me to handle Seputeh constituency problems. One of them is Emily Sim. Emily is married with two kids. She is a very hardworking and sincere person.

About a month ago, she received a complain from Happy Garden morning market hawkers that they were being ‘monitored’ by a big sized guy with specs. Emily thought it was a guy with the surname Chong who hangs around in the coffee shop in my office block here. She then arranged for the hawker to meet up with him to talk things over. When both of them met, the hawker realised that Chong is not the person whom the hawkers in the market referred to. They then apologise to Chong, but Chong refused to accept their apology and insisted Emily to use my influence in DBKL to make the hawkers in Happy Garden suffer. Chong also told Emily that if she doesn’t do it in a month’s time, she will be in trouble. Emily then ignored him.

After that, our members and supporters started to receive sms hinting of an illicit relationship between Emily and that hawker in Happy Garden. A week later, flyers with the same content were distributed to every unit of my office apartment and also Happy Garden. I then asked Emily to lodge police report.

Five days ago, a banner with the same message was erected in the low cost flats in Salak South New Village. I called the police on this matter and Emily was asked to give statement to police again. After that, she found a few more banners hang at the lamp post outside our Salak South New Village branch office at Taman Sungai Besi, and also at Sri Petaling. On Sunday morning, similar banners were hung at the OUG market area.

I had a press conference on this matter and have urged the police in Brickfields to take action. The CID chief said this job is done by a group of people, he needs the public cooperation to feed more information to them.

Somehow we suspect that this dirty tactics is done and funded by my political enemy. It started with a small matter, but it then blown out of proportion.

All these things need money, my political opponents have all the money to spend. As general election is around the corner, they are trying their best to run me down and to hit at my assistants. This is a real dirty and distasteful politics.

Swiftboating in Malaysian politics eh, YB? Seriously, what are they trying to say here? That your assistant may not be kosher and so you are also not kosher by implication? Sometimes.. ok oftentimes, I despair at the maturity of the political situation here.

Well, I hope the people are able to look at this as a form of samseng politics. All of them ganging up on one woman. Highly impressive, no? And maybe after that they will go around kicking puppies into drains. I guess if they do that they will try and paint you in a bad light for that.. “Oh you know, she’s the YB and she didn’t do anything to ensure that the drains are properly puppy free.”

So in short, dirty tricks will be their demise. After 2 terms, I believe that many people will say you’ve done an excellent job. You got my vote anyhow… Anyway, this is like Stand/Squat Part II… And we know how that turned out, don’t we?

If I’m not mistaken, your opponents are DESPERATE! In fact, the whole BN is DESPERATE! This party lurches from one scandal to another. Just imagine who’ll want to be governed by such people?
Since you have an impressive record in your constituency, it’s not too difficult to turn the tables on them.
Take photos of such posters and if possible establish a link with the culprits. Keep meticulous records of the events.
I think that you can also counter such tactics by distributing your own leaflets to the grassroots in your constituency (but also nation wide, if possible) to show how dastardly these scums are. Remember, your track record will stand you in good stead! The whole episode will backfire on the perpetrators!
If you have any party members who are/were police officers, perhaps they can suggest safety precautions for you and your personal assistant. However, both of you should also observe strict safety measures. Be accompanied by someone wherever you go.
Finally, don’t let this matter faze you.
If you can, form a task force to assist you to overcome this trying phase.
Wishing you the best and success in the coming GE.

I spoke to my friend who stays in your constituency and related to her about “The Story Of Lot P.T. 3718, 4 1/2 Mile, Old Klang Road”. I first told her what the Star reported and at the end of it, she said “i don’t believe it. must be the work of MCA trying to smear my MP.” I then told her your story and she said,”See, as I have said, works of smearing campaign.”

As such, do not be disheartened, be encouraged instead. She may be 1 person but so long as you continue your good work, people will know and I know she will vote for you.

Honestly, she wasn’t interested in politics at all and didn’t bother to register. Thanks to the failure of this government in delivering its promises, it is causing more and more people like her who are fed up to try to come out and register to vote. This together with the fact that she found out a few months ago what you have done well and consistently for your constituency (which MSM have a tendency not to report), really pushed her over the edge to finally to be a supporter and use her vote meaningfully.

reading the chinese writting alone tells me that it is of no substance or reason for me to believe whatever point the poster is trying to make.

the posters look well made and should be coming from some rich coffer – hint of some form of political funding. If anyone has that much amount of money not knowing where to throw to, I am happy to be the dumping ground.

By the way, DBKL should be tearing it down. The banner is clearly without a permit.
